Bearclaw 1 Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 Tested this for 4.8.0.21 beta and current stable release. Chromecast with Google TV (4K) version 2022. emby works fine for all of my older chromecast versions (including third generation), but for the current generation with Google TV resume and jump does not behave as expected: it loads some time and then jumps back to beginning or does not stop loading. Tried the same video with old chromecasts and everything works fine. 1

Luke 42077 Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 @Bearclaw Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!
nospotify 184 Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 This is the exact same issue reported by multiple users here:
nospotify 184 Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 Another report of the same problem here: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/115315-problems-resuming-when-casting-to-chromecast/ 1
nospotify 184 Posted June 17, 2023 Posted June 17, 2023 @BearclawHave you had any luck fixing this problem? 1
Cerothen 97 Posted May 11, 2024 Posted May 11, 2024 Has there every been any success on this? My family and I casting from the app to a Chromecast aren't able to resume or seek. It's been like this for a year or longer. It works as expected when playing to the web client, or to a native app (just not casting to Chromecast). When resuming it initially starts playing from the start then jumps to the moment requested, it then shows a still image and the audio plays. This is my experience for first, second, third and ultra gens of Chromecast including on Android tv. I'm using hardware transcoding, but it also doesn't work with it off. My storage is reasonably fast and and is either stripped array or SSD. There are no restrictions on my account that I can think of. If you can describe how to get the Chromecast logs I would be happy to get them. Thanks 2

nospotify 184 Posted May 23, 2024 Posted May 23, 2024 Please read the old threads. This is a known and well-documented issue. 1
nospotify 184 Posted May 24, 2024 Posted May 24, 2024 To re-summarize the results of the previous investigations: when the headers/timing of some video files aren't perfect, they play and control fine 1. from Emby Android app casting to first-generation Chromecast, as well as 2. via the Emby TV app running on either a first-generation or new Chromecast HD device, however, 3) even minor imperfections in headers/timing cause the control & playback problems reported above and in other threads only when casting from Emby Android app to newest Chromecast HD dongle. Why this matters: many of us prefer to cast from our Android device rather than use the Emby TV app, because we get use of full device keyboard, ability to switch to other apps & windows (to check IMDB or Wikipedia or elsewhere on the web, for example), etc. etc. But one of the Emby devs said 'if we make casting from Emby app to new Chromecast HD more fault tolerant, that will just encourage more subpar video files' which is logic I just don't understand as a paid Emby user, given the vast range of files (as reported by many users) that don't work with Emby coded as is. 1
Kocane 14 Posted October 15, 2024 Posted October 15, 2024 Quite mindblowing how this has been an issue for as long as I can remember. Luckily I rarely use Emby like this but when I did yesterday, the freeze (and having paused) occurred again. 2
Luke 42077 Posted May 10, 2025 Posted May 10, 2025 Hi, please try this again and let us know if your issue is resolved. Thanks.

See attached log file. I cast movie "Decision to Leave" to ChromecastGTV from Windows PC running Emby server 4.8.11.0, using Pixel 8a running Emby Android 3.4.67. [This was the exact movie file cited in earlier posts about the problems with playback navigation while Chromecasting.] I was successfully able to navigate time forward and backward using 10 sec/30 sec buttons, as well as manual drag-and-release on timeline progress bar. Only apparent glitch: timeline progress bar did not visibly advance (stayed at "0:00") until after I had manually triggered first time jump. Then all seemed to work perfectly. Bigger problem: I then cast movie "Naked Fury" to ChromecastGTV from new Pixel 8a. Was able to start playback, let run for a few seconds, and then manually jump forward. But that triggered two apparent playback instances playing on the Chromecast device at the same time. The visuals were from the jump-to time, but the audio was still from the original time. Jumping back and forth led to double audio stream playbacks, which were off from each other by a few milliseconds. And then, when I used the Pixel to stop playback, the visual on the TV screen correctly jumped back to the Emby splash screen for the movie, but the sound continued to play from the movie itself, and there was no control visible on the Pixel . The ONLY way I was able to stop the audio stream was to exit entirely from Emby. Log file attached. embyserver.txt
Luke 42077 Posted July 16, 2025 Posted July 16, 2025 HI, can you please give this another try? Thanks !

Tried this with both Emby TV app running on Chromecast dongle connected to a Vizio TV, and then Chromecasting to the same dongle from Emby Android app on Pixel 8a. Both films cited above played fine via Emby TV, scrubbed forward and back, single audio stream, etc. However when Chromecasting from Emby Android app the same problem recurred with one of the films, where pausing and exiting and then resuming led to two parallel audio streams offset by a second or two, and one audio stream continued to play - only on the TV - even after exiting playback again. Only way to control or stop that audio was to exit Emby entirely on the TV. Log file attached. Emby Log.txt
