BIFs, NFOs and Posters; oh my (when are they checked in TV Series?)

I have an exxxxtremely esoteric question.

If you rename ALL the files in a season to, say, fix numbering; does Emby notice the BIFs, NFOs and Posters are changed or does it only monitor media files?

I seem to notice that if I rename everything in a given folder, I can never get Emby to scan and fix things unless I straight up delete the NFOs and often (if not always) BIFs and Posters.

Hi, probably because you still have old information inside the nfo.

@Lighthammer Not sure I follow as I have renamed items with MCM and Emby has seen the changes.  Sometime have to manually adjust some files that are not covered.  Primarily TBA items that later update.

But filename really has nothing to do with metadata title.

This is more of a FMI (for my info) type thing. Its an edge case I don't expect most users to do:

Lets say I dump the following file in

  • \Star Wars Mandalorian\Season 03\Star Wars Mandalorian - S03E01.mp4\

---
Emby of course will go and generate

  • \Star Wars Mandalorian\Season 03\Star Wars Mandalorian - S03E01-320-10.bif
  • \Star Wars Mandalorian\Season 03\Star Wars Mandalorian - S03E01-thump.jpg
  • \Star Wars Mandalorian\Season 03\Star Wars Mandalorian - S03E01.nfo

---

I then go "Whoops, that was Episode 02" and use something like RenameMaster to fix the files and add some data for sanity espeically after retranscoding them myself; then get

  • \Star Wars Mandalorian\Season 03\S03E02 [1080p] [h265].mp4
  • \Star Wars Mandalorian\Season 03\S03E02 [1080p] [h265]-320-10.bif
  • \Star Wars Mandalorian\Season 03\S03E02 [1080p] [h265]-thump.jpg
  • \Star Wars Mandalorian\Season 03\S03E02 [1080p] [h265].nfo

Trying to "refresh" the season, series or folder never seems to go back and RECHECK and REPULL the new information without deleting the BIF, NFO and JPG; but I have had it "fix itself"; its just super rare (it seems).

----

So, for my sanity or at least for best practices, should I always assume bif, nfo and posters (posters, because, I realize they CAN be jpgs, jpegs, pngs or even jfifs) are not going to update and thus should always delete if I do a mass renaming or is there a trick for Emby to see it as a new file (or any intent the future to make it have this functionality).

---

My MAJOR point for asking is it has an impact on the way I build the RenameMaster script. If it won't do what I need it to it, I may as well as just have it delete those files when I do a mass renaming.

Thanks in advance! Also, Happy New Year!
