PeteGul 37 Posted March 2, 2023 Author Posted March 2, 2023 Hi again. As mentioned they did some testing, on series. But then they tried to start a movie, Maleficent 2019. This was just a no go. Would not work at all, just lag on lag. I'll attach the embyserver log, I think the problem start around line 7563. The Emby Player is "host1:9999" as I understand out of the log. But I know they use an Apple TV. I have read all my ffmpeg-transcode logs, and I can't find this movie there. It is like it has not start the transcode? (will attach them if needed, but many) embyserver.txt
rbjtech 5284 Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 Have you tried enforcing a bandwidth restriction on the Apple client ? Start low and keep increasing it until it starts having issues - then drop it back down a little. If there is no transcode log (ffmpeg) then its trying to direct play it - and may not have the bandwidth to do so. Usually, this will be recognised and force a transcode but it may be misreporting the bandwidth for some reason.
PeteGul 37 Posted March 3, 2023 Author Posted March 3, 2023 If it remembers what I did when I was at that place. Yes, if no. Then no. And I don't think that should be necessary, to ask an "normal" user to make that settings to watch I'm going over to them this evening. So I'll see how the setup is. But, I have on server side ser an max streaming for all my users. So there should go if all stream at the same time. That is set to 20 on each user. But no global setting.

I agree - it should just work - but I've seen some silly stuff such as emby attempting to direct playback a 4k remux @ 80Mbps when the users internet only has 10Mbps down ... ok - you can force it server side by limiting their bandwidth to much lower. 20Mbit is great if a) you have the upload capacity and b) they have download capacity. I would start at 5Mbps and work your way up.
PeteGul 37 Posted March 3, 2023 Author Posted March 3, 2023 That not good, that it tries that They have 100x100 and I have 60x60, and nothing else is uploading on my side. So the capacity should be there. But I'll could try even lower, but would it help to set a global one also?
rbjtech 5284 Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 We are just testing. With that internet capacity, it should work just fine but its not always that simple. If it works fine at lower bitrates, then at least we have something to start looking at.
PeteGul 37 Posted March 3, 2023 Author Posted March 3, 2023 (edited) Then I have manged to get some more tests. I end up with max 8mbps on the Apple Tv 1. The server is still on the same settings. Edit: Test from my Android phone on 5G mobile network. Streams the same movie in direct, 11mbps. Can it be the Apple Tv that don't manage? Edit2: Tried on there network, and I see the same problem. Start lagging on my phone. I've seen it loads of times - usually the crud box the provider gives you. Either way, focus on this and they should be able to direct stream. maybe try 2.5Ghz vs 5Ghz (stronger signal), or respositioning the AppleTV and/or router/ap for testing.

Thought the same, that this had to be the problem when I testet yesterday. So have to go back, and try something else. Do You of someone else know of a good android testprogram for this kind of stuff? I use NetAnaliyzer for signals, but don't think that test this kind of things. For this would be bandwidth tests?
rbjtech 5284 Posted March 4, 2023 Posted March 4, 2023 In this instance, a simple speed test app will be good enough as you just need to test the wifi connection. If it can't get above 8Mbit/sec - then that is 100% your issue as your emby server is simply streaming over http, the same as any speed test.
PeteGul 37 Posted March 4, 2023 Author Posted March 4, 2023 Did a speed test while I was there. And speedtest.net at phone (Android and Iphone) both had a speed of 100 down and 110 up. That should be enough. I will say, that all the watch of TV is streamed. NRK, Viaplay and everything.
PeteGul 37 Posted March 7, 2023 Author Posted March 7, 2023 (edited) Hi again. Now I have tested a bit again, still can't get this to work. I can get almost stable play on 4mbits, but have to down to 2mbits. The one thing I find very strange for me, is that I can play 4k from other streaming services that should use more of the speed and network. There is no problems. Like the "Big Buck Bunny" 4K on this test page Nuevodevel. This is twisting my mind Edit: If someone have some ideas what I can check, please let me know. I've checked the network, transferred big files, ping check local and external, against my server and other sites. The Apple TV is cabled, but still the same. rbjtech 5284 Posted March 8, 2023 Posted March 8, 2023 (edited) If ok with you - PM me your WAN Emby URL and a test username/password (maybe setup a test library and just give me permissions to that) - and I'll see what performance I get over my WAN connection. I have Gigabit Down - so use a selection of files and I'll stress your upload to the max to see what's what. Edited March 8, 2023 by rbjtech 1
