PeteGul 37 Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 Hi First time trying to stream when I'm away from home. The first movie on 31.12.22 worked like a charm, but yesterday, not so good.. Just lag, no way watching this. As i don't know anything of this, I'll try ask here. I'll attach logs for the 31.12 and 03.01 for comparing. Tried to understand the settings, think I've done it right. ffmpeg-transcode-826cb770-6682-4223-9da6-d2755bb20006_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-de288293-1b4b-4cfb-8c35-8d6accef76a1_1.txt
Mnejing 23 Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 Do you have subtitles on? Did you try turning them off?
PeteGul 37 Posted January 4, 2023 Author Posted January 4, 2023 Subtitles is on in both. The one from 31 with srt subs. (No lag) The 3. it was srt on series and something else inside the mkv file. (Both lagged) Not tried without subs
PeteGul 37 Posted January 7, 2023 Author Posted January 7, 2023 Is there something more I should look at for the problem? The hardware as I understand should be goog enugh?
rbjtech 5284 Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 It's 'only just' converting at 1.01x speed - so from the log, no, the hardware is not good enough - but I do not understand this at all as you are using a GTX1060 - which should be able to transcode 1080p at 2-300 fps. You should be able to have 10-20 sessions running in parallel ! .. In the 2nd log "Warning: Hardware-accelerated subtitle-overlay is disabled due to diagnostic option" - if you are trying to use subs, then this may be why ?
PeteGul 37 Posted January 7, 2023 Author Posted January 7, 2023 (edited) That is what I thought to, with GTX1060, that's why I bought it. And as I understood, the CPU should also manage a good portion to. I haven't disabled anything, on subs or anything. I have just set up the server as standard... Hmm.. Edit: could the problem be that the "Allow subtitle extraction on the fly" is activated? I read somewhere that this should be activated so every one could have subs? Edit2: Shouldn't this hardware manage to transcode 4K also? Edited January 8, 2023 by pettergulbra Info
rbjtech 5284 Posted January 9, 2023 Posted January 9, 2023 4k should be fine. extracting subs from the file may be causing the issue - try using a separate srt file - using wither emby to get them for you, or extract them yourself from the mkv Also try creating a test local library (not from the nas), if that works ok - then it's related to that
PeteGul 37 Posted January 9, 2023 Author Posted January 9, 2023 Is it easy to extract to srt? And, nothing on nas. Everything is on the same machine.

Just setup a subtitle provider in emby via a plugin - that will do it for you. https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001160043-open-subtitles

But I have the sibs, just need to extract them, is it a easy job. Or is it difficult?

This also assumes they are text based SRT subtitles - if they are PGS (graphical) then it's a lot more difficult to extract them just as a test run this from a command line ffmpeg -i "inputfilename.mkv" "inputfilename.srt" Obviously replace the names in quotes with your example filename/path - and it should just write an external SRT (subtitle) file for the 1st subtitle it finds. Then playback that item - selecting the external subtitle - and it should direct play. Edited January 10, 2023 by rbjtech
PeteGul 37 Posted January 11, 2023 Author Posted January 11, 2023 Found another program for Win, "SubtitleEdit". Will try to extract then test with srt. 1
rbjtech 5284 Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 Just now, pettergulbra said: Found another program for Win, "SubtitleEdit". Will try to extract then test with srt. Yes that will work fine - I use it a lot myself for PGS subs. 1
PeteGul 37 Posted January 15, 2023 Author Posted January 15, 2023 The program worked great. Had to adjust many words, but that's just bad OCR. It also looks like it helps to have the text as srt instead of baked in. 1
PeteGul 37 Posted February 20, 2023 Author Posted February 20, 2023 Hope this thread can revoke again I'm still a little confused about this. Is my HW so bad that it can't transcode with embedded SUBRIP? Is there any adjustments I can do to make it work? Logs can be added again if you want new ones, but don't think there would be much difference.
PeteGul 37 Posted March 2, 2023 Author Posted March 2, 2023 Yes, I do. Relatively sure about it. I'm going over to that place tomorrow again to check. And really test by my self, so I can see it, not just get it explained how it looks. And I will roll the logs before I try, so the logs are clean.
rbjtech 5284 Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 A couple of things. 1. In the Emby Diagnostics - try turning OFF Subtitle h/w Disabled 2. Ensure you have the latest nvidia drivers (not just the OS supplied ones) 3. Ensure throttle is turned ON - you do want it to throttle, otherwise it will try and transcode the entire file in advance of playback, putting your system under unnecessary stress (albeit for a much shorter duration).

Can't seem to find this options. No "Emby Diagnostics" 2: I will 3: Throttling is on

No "Emby Diagnostics" If you do not have the Emby Diagnostics plugin installed (Plugins/General) - then maybe install it and have a try. The reason I mentioned it is there a line in the log file saying it's turned off.
PeteGul 37 Posted March 2, 2023 Author Posted March 2, 2023 Installed it, but can't seem to find what is mentioned. But I found HLS, see picture.
rbjtech 5284 Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 Odd - could be a Beta release thing - as I have these options. Ignore this for the moment - lets get the logs and I'll try and see what's going on .. 1
PeteGul 37 Posted March 2, 2023 Author Posted March 2, 2023 I will try this evening, if they are home. Or else I must wait until tomorrow.
pwhodges 2012 Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 Most of that subtitle stuff is a beta thing. It's also complicated in that case by the fact that there are similar options on the Diagnostics page shown and on the Advanced Transcoding tab for subtitles, and no indication of how they are linked or which takes precedence. Add the old option on the ordinary transcoding page about stripping subtitles or burning them in and the whole thing's currently rather a mess! Obviously (?) this will get cleaned up for release; I'm hoping against hope that it's actually one of the things getting sorted out during this beta release hiatus - as all the subtitle options seem to be working pretty well now if you can get the right ones selected. PeteGul 37 Posted March 2, 2023 Author Posted March 2, 2023 They managed to little bit of testing to day. And they tried with , SRT, SUBRIP and DVDSUB. It seemed to work now. I updated to latest Nvidia drivers, maybe that helped. Will test more when them and I get more time. BTW, is there any good testfiles for this transcoding stuff. So we can test with subs and 4k and so on?
