cptbrainia 3 Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 I'm trying to find out if there's a way to start a video (such as a movie) on two devices at the same time so that they're perfectly in sync. The idea is that I can walk around the house with headphones on listening to my media, and seeing it on whatever room I'm in's TV. I really don't want mess with trying to use a roku remote to try to perfectly align the streams. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Gilgamesh_48 1240 Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 An HDMI splitter and a long HDMI cable or two is all you need. I used to have a setup like you describe but I have since dismantled it. I no longer have that set up. I discovered that I did not really want to listen to TV or a movie when moving around my house. I do listen to audiobooks throughout my house but I do not use Emby for that. I use a dedicated computer running MediaMonkey with the audio running to arr rooms and various Alexa devices to control it. It is not perfect but it does what I want and I do not have to wear or carry anything around the house. I do not like the way Emby handles audiobooks in most cases and a long pause on many devices results in the Emby app exiting so it is not simple to restart the book if you have paused it for more than an hour. (Sometimes less, a lot less) My solution is not ideal but it is the best I can come up with for audiobooks. If you really want to use Emby and listen in multiple rooms the the long HDMI cable plus splitter is a decent solution. I understand there are wireless HDMI extenders but I have no idea if any work well or even at all. But that would make the long cable unnecessary, if they work. 1

Thanks.
