Inspired by a Reddit post (https://www.reddit.com/r/jellyfin/comments/hypjuo/jellyfin_icon_thumbs/). The thread was old, and didn't necessarily have what I wanted. So I dug open Photoshop and found some images I liked. I was a fan of the generated images, but started to find it cluttered. Not sure on the licensing for the images, so there's that.

Can generally recommend theposterdb.com. Customized nearly my whole library with pictures of those.

 

The free Account is sufficient.

Yeah, after I did these, I spent a bunch of time on posterdb doing my genre images from posters. And fanart.tv. Good stuff, less cluttered (for me, anyway).

Do you mind sharing what font you used in photoshop? Or even sharing a template for us to use? That’d be awesome!

Sure.

The font is just Segoe UI at 420pt. The background images are all 1920x1080 at 72dpi. 420pt was the maximum size that allowed me to fit "Collections" while maintaining a consistent font size.

I also use a slightly modified version for genres. Background image is 600x600 at 72dpi. Segoe UI at 100pt. Same layer styles.

Text is centered on the image (except for my screenshot that had Disney misaligned, but fixed afterwards).

Attached the layer file exported from Photoshop 2021. It's just an inner and outer glow. The inner glow isn't really doing a whole lot, so you can skip that if you want. The outer glow is doing all of the real work. The contour was the real magic for me. I played with it a bunch until I just went with the simple version you see, lots of stuff you can do with it.

Pasting images in case the layer style didn't export properly.

Color is 8a2bbb, which was just a random purple I picked at that moment. It looks good with other colors too. If you want to have a bit of fun, you can change the blend mode, I know I did (purple and green Darth Vader was funny to me).

I searched a long time for my pictures, still not 100% satisfied, what is the exact size or px pictures need to have to fit exatly in the placeholder? I have some pictures that have some gaps to the side or to the top and bottom in my library, I wiped out my horror movie library pic, because It's pretty bad...lol
