mystic.bertie 23 Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 I finally got my daughters tablet/ android app connected using a remote connection. The connection i set up is using an external address, do i need to set up a local connection for when she is at home, im assuming the local connection will be much faster. Or can i only use one or the other? many thanks.
jamvids 38 Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 I use only external IP on everything, dosen't seem any slower to me, and will work anywhere that you can get a signal

I dont know why but i can connect everything at 'home' using the local and remote connections. I could not connect from my mobile phones browser today using the external address and my girlfriends app could not connect remotely either (no proxy settting on phone), my girlfriend cant connect from her home using her internet either. So it seems everything only connects when im at home.

Tranquil 94 Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Its not enough to open a port. The port needs to be forwarded to the correct internal IP. You should check your NAT settings also.
ginjaninja 605 Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 another poster informed me that getting an external ip to address an internal resource (wnen on the internal network/interface)..depends on whether the router supports 'hair pinning'. not all do. my BT home hub does, so i point all clients at the remote dnsname/ip and regardless of whether i am on LAN or internet i can connect.
mystic.bertie 23 Posted October 18, 2014 Author Posted October 18, 2014 Hi guys thanks for the replies, when i first tried to connect with the remote address using my laptop browser, i could not connect to the server, after enabling port forwarding it worked using my laptop browser and the external address however i still can only connect when im using my home network, regardless of whether i use the enternal or internal address. I have enebled port forwarding on my router (virgin superhub 2) i also tried disabling my eset firewall and router firewall. also there is no proxy setting on the android APN settings
mystic.bertie 23 Posted October 19, 2014 Author Posted October 19, 2014 wow it seems to be working, i rebooted my router yesterday, this changed the v4 ip address and after setting up the port forwarding with the new details, i can connect from remote locations. Yipee.
