Marc_G 95 Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Hi folks, I'd like to collect some "show off" movies to show off my new TV (coming this weekend!) and of course Media Browser on my HTPC. What are some favorite picks of yours that really provide a visual feast? Gatsby is a recent favorite, for example. Also Sucker Punch, Toy Story 3.... What are your faves? Marc
JeremyFr79 228 Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 I have a few go to movies, Avatar, Tron Legacy, Opening of Toy Story 2, Opening of Dark Knight Rises, Scene's from Act of Valor, those are few, depends on what piece of my theater room I'm showing off, the audio side or video side, or both hehe
Overseer 66 Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Yeah, Avatar for sure, especially if in 3D. Agree with Planet Earth, also Madagascar (The BBC doc, not the animated movie) is a visual feast.
ebr 16169 Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Not sure what the "reference discs" are nowadays as the movies and BD reproductions just seem to get better and better but, back in my day of having this room I used to use the LOTR "Ring Drop" and War of the Worlds "Earthquake" scenes to show off sub-woofer performance (subs:) For video it used to be The Fifth Element, but I imagine there are a lot better ones now. 1
JeremyFr79 228 Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Art of Flight is another AMAZING disc to show off both audio and video, always one of my go to's for demo's, if you haven't seen that movie you really should, looks amazing if you have a GOOD front projection system.
seanbuff 1315 Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Oh ebr, why you gotta tease us with those pics again! I'm sure you miss that room though ...
Tharnax 49 Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 (edited) @EBR - Very nice/clean theater room. We moved to a new home back in Feb and I've got a perfect room to do something similar. Now, just need time & money to get it done! Sounds like you don't have the room any more, you moved? I'm sure it was very difficult to give up. I primarily use the opening sequence to Dark Knight Rises, as some one already mentioned. However, for those who haven't seen World War Z, I watched it last weekend for the first time and there is a moment in the film where the bass just rocked our cottage which only has a single SVS Sub-woofer. I was watching the flick with family so I couldn't stop and take note of time but that was a serious deep bass moment for showing off the quality of the sub-woofer(s). Edit - Found it, someone posted the scenes to the AVS forums. Edited October 17, 2013 by Tharnax 1
crashkelly 62 Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 @Tharnax - Great choice of subs. I have an SVS cylinder sub and it rocks the house Looking forward to picking up a second one when I move to the new house in January. House is a new build and warranty says I have to wait a year to finish the basement and Home Theatre room. Happy about this as it will give me a year to plan and re-plan. Cheers
Tester 45 Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Oceans !! US Version 1080p, skip to Tuna Feeding Frenzy
wpbpete 2 Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 +1 to the opening scene of Dark Knight Rises its an surround audio feast. For picture, the alone in the ocean scenes of Life Of Pi are awe inspiring.
