ginjaninja 605 Posted December 24, 2022 Posted December 24, 2022 Does any one have an overview of how Media bit rate settings are overwritten / persisted with what precedence (Roku/Android apps) ive recently upgraded to 1Gbit, so am keen that no one transcodes unless absolutely necessary, but cant work out the easiest way to reset everyone back to unlimited bandwidth on all media and start again. Step 1 i think is to understand how media bitrate (the bitrate the user selects on a specific piece of media) is persisted. Does Emby record the users chosen bitrate for a piece of media? per media? Initial testing suggests that setting the user profile and app bitrate to unlimited/auto isnt enough....and setting the bitrate on a piece on media within media playback doesnt change the behaviour for other media? is that right? thanks

No. Assuming you don't set any limits at the global server or user settings level, and the apps are left at "Auto" (the default) then it all should just work. If it isn't, provide an ffmpeg log from when it didn't. Just because your upload has increased doesn't necessarily mean everyone is going to be able to direct play your media from all connections.
