The really cute thing is that I can't add the update now because Windows Update server requires updated SSL too. That was going to be the next question. Do you know the KB number? Could you possibly download them on another machine. Sort of remember this Update to enable TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 as default secure protocols in WinHTTP in Windows - Microsoft Support InstaSafe | How to Enable TLS 1.2 on Windows 7 and Windows 8? Both point to this KB3140245 https://catalog.update.microsoft.com/search.aspx?q=kb3140245
GregMo 24 Posted January 16, 2023 Author Posted January 16, 2023 I found the manual download that's suppose to enable these ciphers but it's not running for me. I've been putting off an upgrade to Win8.1 for almost 2 years now. Guess I'll do that this coming Thursday and that should fix this (as well as another completely unrelated issue, lol). I'll update here when I get it done. 2
Happy2Play 9780 Posted January 16, 2023 Posted January 16, 2023 @GregMo Not sue it the update will include the advisory or not, but have you installed this? Microsoft Security Advisory 3042058 | Microsoft Learn
GregMo 24 Posted January 16, 2023 Author Posted January 16, 2023 That's what I tried to install, yes. Unfortunately, for some reason, when I try to install it I get an error that it's not applicable to my computer. I figure the update to Win8.1 will fix it, though, and will allow me to do some other things that I've been having to work around for the last year or two.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted January 16, 2023 Posted January 16, 2023 Let us know how it goes but may run into the same issue and have to manually find fixes for the OS. I know I ran into similar issue back when I rebuilt my WHS2011 server and testing Windows 7.
