Converting for Quality?

Recommended Posts

I was watching an anime the other day on my PC (Emby Theater), and it was choppy and looked like crap.  I checked the server, and it said it was being transcoded due to quality settings.

It's the first I've seen it on my account.  I saw it on my daughter's account the other day too.  I didn't think I had any kind of limits on either of the accounts

Yeah, why is it transcoding when it should be doing Direct Play?  If there are settings where would they be?

If you don't have any explicit limits set on your users streaming bitrate option, then check your 'User > Playback > Video' settings:
(You can check this within Emby Theater itself)

If they are set to Auto, sometimes clients can be a little on the conservative side. Depending on if you're remote or local streaming, try setting this dropdown to one of the highest quality settings and try again.

On the server it's set to 4k 160mbps, in Emby Theater it was Auto, so I set it to the 4k 160 as well.  I'll keep an eye on it.
