justinrh 260 Posted December 20, 2022 Posted December 20, 2022 If I toggle of the Sports category for my Emby Guide, almost all the programs disappear.
Luke 42078 Posted December 20, 2022 Posted December 20, 2022 Expected. All checked = no filter. As soon as you uncheck one, you're limited to programs that match at least one of those three.
justinrh 260 Posted December 20, 2022 Author Posted December 20, 2022 (edited) Explain again? How does unchecking "Sports" leave only news? Shouldn't !Sports remove only 'sports programs'? By unchecking a category, the user is saying, "I don't want this category". Edited December 20, 2022 by justinrh

It is leaving only the ones you have checked - which are either news, movies or kids. It eliminated all other programs - which would include ones with no category at all. 19 minutes ago, justinrh said: By unchecking a category, the user is saying, "I don't want this category". You are actually saying "I ONLY want these checked categories". Perhaps there needs to be an option for "No category"...
justinrh 260 Posted December 20, 2022 Author Posted December 20, 2022 Are my pictures not clear? Did removing Sports remove only 'sports'? No, it removed 90% of all programs. Bug. If I am missing something, someone please point it out in very clear language.

Then how does a user account for all the stuff that is not in a category in the list? Removing 90% of everything just to get rid of sports doesn't seem reasonable. Unchecking 1 should remove only that 1. Everything else should display. Edited December 20, 2022 by justinrh

I think when people are selecting these categories they are likely looking to be inclusive, not exclusive. It is showing only the ones selected. To be 100% complete, I guess we would need an option for "Uncategorized". 2

But I do understand how software typically works. Typically, when everything is already on and you want to remove something, you deselect it. If the UI is to be understood as additive, then the guide would be blank by default so the user can include as desired. However, in either case, the user can't get what is wanted because there is this black hole of stuff that is 'uncategorized'. So if I want only Sports and 'uncategorized', I can't get it. Interesting how two users can have totally opposite understanding on UI expectations. At least I know what to expect now. 1

Can you explain your use-case? I do think for completeness, perhaps we need an "Uncategorized" option. However, I think most use-cases should still be obtainable. Most folks would think "I want to watch a sporting event" or "I want to watch a movie" or "I want to watch a news program". I don't think many folks would instead think "I want to watch anything as long as it isn't sports"...
justinrh 260 Posted December 20, 2022 Author Posted December 20, 2022 Gotcha. Sorry for the confusion.
