Options to enjoy Emby on a new Samsung TV

Long story short: for many years, I've been using Emby web on an Intel NUC with Windows 10 on the living room TV.

This setup remains, but was moved out of the living room to the basement family room.

For the new living room setup. I have a new Samsung series 485 TV to start with.

What device should I be looking at to access my Emby media?

I have zero knowledge of any or all alternatives to running a Windows PC on the big TV.

A) just Tyzen and the TV remote

B ) Roku

C) Fire TV

D) Nvdia shield

E) htpc computer, although that's not really an option right now, $$ wise

F) anything I missed mentioning

My needs, in this order:

1) Dependable

2) User friendly

3) Fast

4) Not too expensive

Oh, and I live in Canada.

Hi, if hd audio pass through of all formats is important to you then I'd probably suggest the shield. Other than that the tizen app is a great choice.

First I'd try the Tizen app, got nothing to loose there. My brother in law uses it and seems happy with it. (Canada? You may have to side load from USB. Not that hard, same as Australia).

If that's not to your requirements then go for the shield.

If you want something cheaper the Xiaomi MI BOX S 4K is ok (Android TV device) but not as good as the shield. ;)

I use the MI BOX on a couple of older TV's and I really like them. In some respects there are better than my Sony Android TV app.

Food for thought. Obviously do some research and find out what's best for your situation.

It makes a lot of sense to start off with Tizen.

Its free and no new remote required 😀

Are these instructions still current and up to date, 3 ½ years later ?

Should hd audio pass through be important ? Does that refer to less trans-coding work for the server (or client).

I think that's what my brother in law used, you may have to jump through some hoops (firmware upgrades etc.) depending on your model of TV..

I think that's all you get if your not in the designated countries.

Depends what your sources are.

If that's what you mean, mostly mp4 and mkv, 95% 1080p 720p.

Should be all good with the Tizen app. Give it a go.

For audio formats I can look them up one media at a time, but I wouldn't know how to get an overall view

Have you got a nice 5.1 - 7.1 audio system?  if not don't worry about it. If you have go for the shield!

The previous setup included a  2.1 audio system, but wife wanted out those big loudspeakers / "million" wires.

The new system will only have a single portable Bose BT speaker... That's all the "clean look" can offer. 🤐

That has nothing to do with whether not having HD audio passthrough will require transcoding.

Come to think of it, bluetooth is not offered on the budget TV we just got.

It will work when watching actual tv signal from the provider's terminal, which is bluetooth capable.

But when I'll switch input from TV terminal to Emby Tizen, I'll lose sound to bt speaker.

Unless the speaker also work thru USB... 🤔

Hmm, strange. What if you plugin a USB bluetooth dongle into the TV?

Na that wont work..

Good idea !

If it works, that's one less wire (WAF up) and the speaker remains portable.

Hope it works, it would be nice if the blue-tooth just worked. :)

My TV is the same, has blue-tooth for controllers but not much else.

I use this device to transmit sound from the TV by Bluetooth (for my wife's hearing aids) - I've mounted it behind the TV on the bracket.  It can be fed from the headphone socket or the TOSlink, depending on whether you want to disable the built-in speakers.

That's not a bad price actually. My TV has BT input but not output. Cheapo :)

I have tried some BT dongles but this looks cool!

I just read that the mini usb jack on the Bose speaker is just for charging purpose.

The dongle is now the only hope left.
