For example, online radio stations and even IRL ones mitigate repetition through the use of rules. You can specify that a song can only be played once during any given "x hours/days". It can be applies to artists, albums etc - so is it possible to integrate that into Emby itself? Or an option within shuffle/playlists could include "only play an episode/show/whatever if it hasn't played in "X' amount of time". Maybe with Smart Playlists?

I've just moved back over to PLEX for my playlists.

I pretty much had enough of watching the same 30 episodes out of a mix of thousands. 

I put Trailer Park Boys on shuffle this morning (12 seasons).  Watched a couple hours worth, shut it off and went out.

Came home an hour ago and hit shuffle again and the first two episodes EMBY played were both played this morning. 

Installed PLEX and so far so good.

 

I much prefer EMBY but 95% of my viewing is playlists at home on different tv's and after years of the same issue I had enough.

I think I found an answer for the issue.  Not sure why it works but so far so good after 3 days and no repeats.

Instead of adding shows to a playlist I turned them into a Collection.

I go to the collection and choose shuffle and as I've said no repeats for 3 days now at least none I have noticed.  

Also it's shuffling from all the shows not just 3 or 4.

I figured it would be the same as well but decided to try.  

Still not one repeat and it's playing from all 19 different shows.  

Something different must happening.
