Metadata for TV show is mixing the old 1978 show with 2003 version

Hello,

I've tried to research to see if anyone has faced this issue before, but to no avail.  Here's the issue:

I have Battlestar Galactica TV 2003 series downloaded on my Unraid server, which also hosts emby.

I recently added Battlestar Galactica 1978 to my Sonarr app and it downloaded all the episodes.  I did notice that the folder didn't include the "(1978)", which I have since added to see if Emby can recognize it, but no dice.

When I opened Emby, it mixed the two shows together under the 2003 seriesimage.thumb.png.454697ccf3ce7b0b189e8e5a2bb200a5.png

That 2nd 1-3 somehow has the title for both the new series and the old series, but when played, shows the episode from the old series.

I verified that the Path in the Metadata for the show in Emby is pointing to the 2003 series, but for some reason it seems to be including the older show's episode as well.

Is there a way to fix this? I tried looking at the bulk metadata updater, but couldn't get it to change anything.  Is there a way to manually set everything in a given path to a specific series (e.g. IMDB or TVDB ID?)

If there's any additional info needed, please let me know!

The only way that I've been able to fix this in similar situations is to remove the 2003 version, rescan, identify the 1978 version, and then add back the 2003 version. Essentially, first add the tv series that isn't being recognized correctly, then add the tv series that is being recognized correctly.

Can you clarify what you mean when you say "remove" in this case? Are you moving or renaming the folder then re-scanning?

Yes, sorry. Move the folder somewhere else temporarily so Emby can't see it. Then rescan so it only picks up the 1978 series. Then add the folder back to where Emby can see it and scan again.

Got it - I will try that, thank you.

Name your series folders

Battlestar Galactica [tvdbid=71173]

and

Battlestar Galactica (2003) [tvdbid=73545]

Re-scan.

Huh, interesting, I didn't even know that was an option.  Thank you!

Me neither, good tip!

@GrimReaper @Happy2Play Can you add that info to metadata and rescan too? Would that do the trick?

Sort of depends if you have nfo files with media existing metadata will be read.

Welp, unfortunately this method did not work.  I'm not even seeing the older Battlestar Galactica in emby.  I think i'll have to try moving the folder and re-scanning.

This is using the tvdb scraper.

https://thetvdb.com/series/battlestar-galactica

If you do not have tvshow.nfo in the Battlestar Galactica folder, open notepad and copy & paste the above url into it then save as tvshow.nfo

image.jpeg.c31e3e08a6703236300eb114483672e6.jpeg

Put it in the Battlestar Galactica folder then rescan, if it finds the show, remove the tvshow.nfo and export your library so it creates a proper nfo for that show.

This method works in Kodi for finding shows that the scraper has trouble with.

There was a .nfo file in the old BSG show's folder before, but it was pointing to the 2003 version.

I replaced the contents of that file with the link above and rescanned and refreshed metadata, but still no dice. Emby wants to hold on to that association for some reason lol.

did you try the 'Identify' option in Emby ?

What is the folder structure for your BSG collection ?

I did try to edit the meta data to remove the wrong IDs, then refresh the metadata, but it didn't work.

What I had to do was:

1. Move the folders to another non-TV folder.

2. Delete the series in Emby

3. Delete all .NFO files

4. Create/update the .NFO file for the old series

5. Move the folder back into /TV

6. Rescan/Refresh metadata

7. Confirm that the old show was picked up correctly

8. Move the newer series back into the /TV folder and rescan/refresh

Sounds like alot of messing about but good it's ok now.

Maybe the nfo's were from a different scraper.
