dredd1963 17 Posted December 5, 2022 Posted December 5, 2022 Afternoon all Ive had to convert a film file using the convert function via the server , I've never had to use this before. anyway when the converting was done i ended up with not only 2 files but each was twice as long/big as the original the film twice back to back, this is the second time doing this film last time it only done i file containing 2 films back to back. I've included the what i think is the right log. looking forward to hearing back ffmpeg-directstream-b7a88c82-5670-4f46-988b-6c67020a25cb_1.txt
rbjtech 5284 Posted December 5, 2022 Posted December 5, 2022 I think that is just the playback log ? Do you have a conversion ffmpeg log ? Should be titled ffmpeg-transcode-x
dredd1963 17 Posted December 5, 2022 Author Posted December 5, 2022 Hi thanks for answering, i had a look for the file that you asked for unfortunately there's not one for today, only the file above.

dredd1963 17 Posted December 5, 2022 Author Posted December 5, 2022 Am sorry but that's only log I can find for that time period.
Ronstang 294 Posted December 5, 2022 Posted December 5, 2022 I looked at the conversions settings on the dashboard and there aren't any so I don't even know what codec it uses or the settings for the specific codec which means the resulting quality is suspect to me so you may want to look at doing them on your own like I do using other software....all free.
dredd1963 17 Posted December 5, 2022 Author Posted December 5, 2022 Normally I use handbrake, but I thought convert a go, must admit for how quickly it converts the quality is really good. The problem is not the quality but the fact that the end file contains the same film twice.
Luke 42081 Posted December 5, 2022 Posted December 5, 2022 Hi, please attach the emby server log from when the conversion happened. Thanks.
Ronstang 294 Posted December 5, 2022 Posted December 5, 2022 How big is the file compared to the original recording? If the file size is small with good quality I suspect it is HEVC.....which amazes me at times.
Ronstang 294 Posted December 5, 2022 Posted December 5, 2022 @Luke Why can't we choose our own conversion settings......I'm particular about quality and have never found anyone's "default settings" acceptable for my content.

Why do you think you can't? Have you explored the options when setting up the conversion job?

Sorry Luke, I just looked in the dashboard and the settings were minimal. I just tried to convert an already recorded item and while there are some settings they are extremely minimal. I would not convert any of my movies that way as I have already run into quality issues with basic generic profiles. I would prefer to be able to add a custom profile like the following for ffmpeg: -map 0 -c:v hevc_nvenc -vf "fieldmatch,bwdif=mode=0:deint=1,decimate,format=yuv420p10le" -c:a copy -c:s copy -preset p7 -rc constqp -rc-lookahead 60 -spatial_aq 1 -temporal_aq 1 -nonref_p 1 -cq 26 I don't want compressed audio, 10 bit color makes for files of way better quality, and my files need to be inverse telecined as they are not interlaced.
Luke 42081 Posted December 5, 2022 Posted December 5, 2022 OK right you can't do all that but you can configure it for hevc.
