King_Col_Bundy 13 Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 Hi all, I had a blackout the other day and my Synology NAS unexpectedly shutdown. I have since invested in a UPS which will stop this happening again in the future. The IP address changed when the NAS restarted and has now seemingly caused an issue in connecting to Emby remotely. In the dashboard, the remote access IP has not appeared to have changed, but is no longer working. Allow remote connections is ticked. Any help is greatly appreciated.
bubffm 7 Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 Just fix the IP your synology is using to force it back to the previous one. 2
Happy2Play 9780 Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 Yes you should have IP reserved on your router for this system or a static IP address assign as it will break Port Forwarding with every change. If you are use Port Mapper then it may be failing. 1

I was having IP Conflicts and unable to connect after the shut down, so that's why I turned off the option to keep the same IP.

bubffm 7 Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 if any other machine has "captured" that IP, just temporarily disconnect that one from you network. Set the fixed (reserved) IP for your Synology, take router of power, reconnect that other machine that had previously cpatured you synology IP. boot up the router again, and all should be fixed.
Tandhruil 26 Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 Usually you have a range of dynamics addresses and a range of statics addresses. For example : 192.168.1.1 Router 192.168.1.10 - 192.168.1.150 DHCP (dynamics) over 192.168.1.150 you can define manually your addresses

Hey, I have tried this but get a message that the IP address has been used. I turned off both computers on our network when trying this, so I can't see what else it could be. But you still need to ensure the machine always get the same address.
King_Col_Bundy 13 Posted December 1, 2022 Author Posted December 1, 2022 Hey all, thanks for your help so far, I appreciate it. I have logged on to my router settings but unsure of exactly what to put in here in order to set up port forwarding?
King_Col_Bundy 13 Posted December 1, 2022 Author Posted December 1, 2022 Does this seem about right? This was my understanding of what to enter (IP address blurred out but internal IP entered correctly). It's still not working however.

King_Col_Bundy 13 Posted December 1, 2022 Author Posted December 1, 2022 Any other ideas or anything else I might have missed? It is definitely the correct IP but still unable to connect remotely.
seanbuff 1315 Posted December 1, 2022 Posted December 1, 2022 Does the IP shown here: https://www.whatismyip.com/ match what is shown as your 'Remote (WAN) access' on your Emby Dashboard?

It's running on my Synology which doesn't have a browser package, so it just shows what my Windows IP is. EDIT: Just installed a Firefox Docker container and can confirm it is showing up as my Remote (WAN) access IP. Edited December 1, 2022 by King_Col_Bundy
King_Col_Bundy 13 Posted December 1, 2022 Author Posted December 1, 2022 I have now changed the IP address on Synology back to it's original IP (after finding out what took it and changing the computer's address). I have changed the port forwarding to now be the new (old) IP address and it is again still not working. Any other ideas how I could fix this?
King_Col_Bundy 13 Posted December 2, 2022 Author Posted December 2, 2022 (edited) Hi, is anyone able to help any further? Still no resolution @Happy2Play? Edited December 2, 2022 by King_Col_Bundy
Luke 42077 Posted December 4, 2022 Posted December 4, 2022 Hi, are you using a reverse proxy, vpn, or synology quick connect?
Happy2Play 9780 Posted December 4, 2022 Posted December 4, 2022 Might need a little assist from @cayars

Hey Luke, when I had the blackout I think it messed up the configuration of the VPN as well, so I reconfigured the VPN and have attempted with and without it running. I didn't know what a reverse proxy was before Googling it just then! So probably not an issue. As far as QucikConnect goes, I do have it enabled but don't try and access Emby through it or anything.
Carlo 4560 Posted December 5, 2022 Posted December 5, 2022 Forgetting about remote access, can you get to your Emby Server from a PC on your network LAN using the IP? In a browser use http://192.168.0.25:8096 but change the 4 digits of the IP address so it matches the IP assigned to your NAS. If you can access Emby Server ok from a PC on your LAN it's most likely a router config issue (try rebooting the router), then check the settings to make sure there is only one forward rule in place for Emby. If you like I can remote into your PC with you and review your setup with you and make suggestions as well as help you get the NAS IP address reserved on your router. We can make sure there isn't a proxy or VPN issue on the NAS causing a problem as well. Send me a PM (hover over my avatar to access messages) if you like and we can setup a remote support session to get you fixed up and squared away. Carlo
Luke 42077 Posted December 5, 2022 Posted December 5, 2022 @King_Col_Bundy were you able to link up with @cayars ?
Carlo 4560 Posted December 5, 2022 Posted December 5, 2022 No, I haven't heard from him, but maybe he hasn't been back to the forums since he last posted.
King_Col_Bundy 13 Posted December 6, 2022 Author Posted December 6, 2022 Thanks heaps @cayars and @Luke I'll organise a time to be free for this 1
King_Col_Bundy 13 Posted December 13, 2022 Author Posted December 13, 2022 Just want to let you all know that this is fixed. Thank you @Luke @cayars @Happy2Playfor your help. I managed to fix it when playing around with a few things yesterday. I turned the VPN off on my NAS, which changed the remote access IP. I then changed the port on emby to a different number. It was a pretty easy fix, but I had no idea you could change the port for emby. 2
