Emby honors the "lockdata" field and has never altered my locked NFO files during any automated process. "Lock Data" setting does not keep Emby from writing to your NFO files. It just keeps Emby from changing item data in its database with data it gets from metadata providers, which includes Nfo readers. As soon as you lock an item, it will stop reading your Nfo file data. When you would make a change in an Nfo file, you won't see that change in Emby after a metadata refresh.

When an item is "Locked" emby doesn't alter the database. I suppose a side effect is that it doesn't write to my NFO files either ... keeping my curated/altered metadata intact. I don't alter my NFO files directly anymore so I wouldn't encounter a scenario where I updated the NFO file and emby didn't "see" those changes. Currently, I set all of my metadata using emby's web client.

BTW, I've made a change to the beta server (next beta release) so it doesn't mess with the sort name anymore when the general item lock is set.
