Karidemus 1 Posted November 29, 2022 Posted November 29, 2022 (edited) Hello, I am struggling with connectivity issues. I was using Emby and it was working fine, but recently *something* has changed and now I cannot connect to my locally hosted server through any devices on the network. I get the Connection Failure setting, saying it is unable to connect to the selected server. I have followed the connectivity guide. My devices can see my home server, but can't connect. https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001849007-connectivity When I try inputting the local ip address into a browser on my phone or tablet, it won't connect. I forwarded the TCP ports on my computer, and ensured they are the ones selected in the server. I have no VPN running, and I have also ran a virus scan and my system is clean. I am honestly just stumped as to what is going on. If I try remote connections using Emby connect that also fails. I am using Emby 4.7.10, and I am trying to connect with my Smart TV, android phone/tablet, and Windows PCs, and none of them can connect. Please help if possible! embyserver.txt Edited November 29, 2022 by Karidemus Adding logs.

Luke 42078 Posted November 29, 2022 Posted November 29, 2022 Hi there, are you sure you have the correct server ip address? Maybe the ip address of the server machine has changed? If you cant' connect internally inside your own network then I would say Windows Firewall on the server machine is a likely cause.
Karidemus 1 Posted November 29, 2022 Author Posted November 29, 2022 I have double checked the ip on the server and the ip Im using. I went into my network settings and double checked the local ip and those also seem correct. I suspect it is the firewall, however my port forwarding hasn't resolved it, and even disabling the firewall as a test wouldnt let anything through.

Emby Server detects your local network address, so it's not something that most people need to configure manually. The vast majority of times it will be correct, but every once in a while, in some network environments, it might not be. That's why I would check the ip address of the server machine using some other means besides Emby Server. Like in your router or in a windows command prompt by entering ipconfig
Karidemus 1 Posted November 29, 2022 Author Posted November 29, 2022 Sorry for being unclear! For checking my ip settings on the server machine I went into my network settings under control panel networks on the server and confirmed the ip that my machine was on. Using ipconfig also makes it clear that the server ip and the emby settings ip are the same address. I can access the server by using a browser on the server machine by using localip:port, but my phone, tablet and tv can't. Also, they are all on the same local wifi network.
rbjtech 5284 Posted November 29, 2022 Posted November 29, 2022 (edited) 1. Check the LAN/network in Windows is 'Private' and not 'Public' In win11 - it looks like this - in win10 - 2. Check the Firewall has ports opened - temporarily turn it off to check. Edited November 29, 2022 by rbjtech
Karidemus 1 Posted November 29, 2022 Author Posted November 29, 2022 My network is set to private, and I have the ports forwarded. What is odd is that even with the firewall off, I still can't connect with devices on the local firewall.
rbjtech 5284 Posted November 29, 2022 Posted November 29, 2022 (edited) using the command prompt - try C:\Users\richa>netstat -a | find "8096" TCP 0.0.0.0:8096 media:0 LISTENING TCP 192.168.30.100:8096 192.168.30.46:51520 ESTABLISHED TCP 192.168.30.100:8096 192.168.30.46:51536 ESTABLISHED TCP 192.168.30.100:8096 192.168.30.254:55600 ESTABLISHED.... What does your list ? On the local lan - port forwarding is not relevant as you are not routing / going via the gateway. Edited November 29, 2022 by rbjtech
rbjtech 5284 Posted November 29, 2022 Posted November 29, 2022 According to your log - the server is responding to http POST requests .. So as long as the other devices are on the 192.168.1.x subnet and have 192.168.1.x Ip addresses - then they should work ok .. (standard /24 network is presumed here ..) You emby server is 192.168.1.86 correct ?
Karidemus 1 Posted November 29, 2022 Author Posted November 29, 2022 You are correct, my emby server is 192.186.1.86. When I tried the command prompt I got the following:
Luke 42078 Posted November 29, 2022 Posted November 29, 2022 Do you have other security software installed?
Luke 42078 Posted November 29, 2022 Posted November 29, 2022 When you try to connect from a smartphone, how exactly are you doing that?
Karidemus 1 Posted November 29, 2022 Author Posted November 29, 2022 Ive tried both the app, and also using just the server ip on google chrome browser. The app can see the server but wont connect, and the browser just times out.
Luke 42078 Posted November 29, 2022 Posted November 29, 2022 Have you configured any settings in the Network section of Emby Server? If so, what?
Karidemus 1 Posted November 29, 2022 Author Posted November 29, 2022 No changes to network setting, most fields are empty.
Luke 42078 Posted November 29, 2022 Posted November 29, 2022 OK, that's a tough one. Clearly something is blocking the connection, the question is what. You could always try a different internal port and see if that makes a difference.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted November 29, 2022 Posted November 29, 2022 Can you provide a server log after a restart as it will show network detection. Port Mapper is flooding your log, so would suggest is disabling via Networks page or uninstalling the plugin. Also using your Forum info I see Emby port is open and Remote access is working.
Karidemus 1 Posted November 29, 2022 Author Posted November 29, 2022 I disabled Port Mapping and uploaded the server log, hopefully that helps. I tried some different ports, but that did not seem to help, unless there is a particular TCP port you would recommend.embyserver.txt
Luke 42078 Posted November 29, 2022 Posted November 29, 2022 Port mapping doesn't' really matter right now because you can't even connect from other devices inside your local network. Port forwarding in the router comes after local network connections because if you can't connect from another device while inside the network, then you won't be able to when you're outside.

Karidemus 1 Posted November 29, 2022 Author Posted November 29, 2022 Oh sorry I did, but then I worried I wasnt using the right port (I just picked a number one off from the standard) and switched it back. I can switch and try again.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted November 29, 2022 Posted November 29, 2022 This suggests a Firewall issue if Remote works and Local does not. Can you show the Emby Server firewall rules.
Karidemus 1 Posted November 29, 2022 Author Posted November 29, 2022 Here is the server log information with the new ports. embyservernewport.txt Here is a screen snip of the server rules. With the old TCP and the new ones.
