Jumalolento 0 Posted November 27, 2022 Posted November 27, 2022 When I use hardware acceleration for transcoding, the movie starts directly, but stops after a few seconds. Software transcoding works, but it puts a huge load on the CPU. The behavior occurs in Edge as well as in the Chrome browser. Here is a screenshot with working transcoding, when the movie freezes it is blank. I put the Emby app as well as the transcoding path on SSD storage to avoid bottlenecks there. But it did not bring any improvement. I do not know what else I can do to get it running ffmpeg-transcode-5430b675-3ea4-458b-b160-b8508be53dcc_1.txt embyserver.txt
Happy2Play 9780 Posted November 29, 2022 Posted November 29, 2022 First guess would be the bitrate conversion doubling from HEVC to h264. Your is showing a conversion from 50Mbps to 87Mbps. If you lower in the in-client playback setting, do you still have this issue?
Jumalolento 0 Posted November 29, 2022 Author Posted November 29, 2022 (edited) I left it on "Auto" but even when I go to a 50 mbps bitrate the problem occurs. I then set it to 20mbps out of freeze, so it seems to work. I would like to have the full quality though. ffmpeg-transcode-4017a1cc-512e-4364-9f34-47cd7e70da5f_1.txt embyserver (1).txt Edited November 29, 2022 by Jumalolento
Happy2Play 9780 Posted November 29, 2022 Posted November 29, 2022 (edited) But transcoding 4k will never be full quality as you lose HDR but assisted with Tone Mapping in the conversion. What kind of network connection is the client on? Browsers have limited support and will require transcoding in most cases. TranscodeReasons=VideoCodecNotSupported If have Emby Premiere you may get better results from Emby Theater Desktop. Emby Theater - Emby Edited November 29, 2022 by Happy2Play
Jumalolento 0 Posted November 29, 2022 Author Posted November 29, 2022 Thanks for the advice, if I try to play the Movie with Emby Theater I get following C++ runtime errors I already tried a reinstallation of the runtime and rebooted several times.

Yes there appears to be an issue in the installer and 3.0.17.
Jumalolento 0 Posted November 29, 2022 Author Posted November 29, 2022 Ok I installed the Version from the Windows Store. It's still transcoding but working without changing the bitrate, that's working for me thank you for your help
Happy2Play 9780 Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 Glad it works but note the Store version use a different player then the Desktop version so you could get different result as Desktop will support for formats natively. 1
bigmk777 0 Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 I'm running into this issue as well - what I'm noticing is that when the client (chrome) is set to Auto, the HLS encode rate is way higher than the source. Playback will occasionally halt, or outright stop. However if I manually select a lower bitrate then everything plays normally. Let me know if I'm misreading the HLS stream conversion rate below.
bigmk777 0 Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 For comparison, I hopped over to my DS220+, and played back the same file (using the TS-873A as the source), on the same browser with the playback set to Auto. 220+ only has an intel celeron, and no room for a GTX card.
