Truck24000 1 Posted November 26, 2022 Posted November 26, 2022 Frustrated here!!! I have searched forum but could not find my issue! When a movie moves from Radarr to my movie folder sometimes i get a playback error, but not on all of the ones being moved have the issue. It can be any type of movie or file type that has the issues. The kicker part is if i cut the movie from movie folder and paste to desktop and then wait a few moments and cut from desktop and paste back to movie folder it will play just fine! I have noticed that i can tell which movie does it as there will be no movie length time on the info page. I have enclosed the logs and hopefully these are the ones you need. embyserver.txt
Luke 42079 Posted November 26, 2022 Posted November 26, 2022 Hi, what time was the problem experienced? What were you trying to play?
Truck24000 1 Posted November 26, 2022 Author Posted November 26, 2022 It happened around 3:15 pm , and the movie was "Jumping from high places" This is the path if it helps "/mnt/Movies/Jumping from High Places (2022)/Jumping from High Places (2022).mkv" But it also happens with other types of movies not just mkv.
Luke 42079 Posted November 26, 2022 Posted November 26, 2022 Can you please attach the ffmpeg log as well? Thanks.
Truck24000 1 Posted November 26, 2022 Author Posted November 26, 2022 here it is ffmpeg-remux-6be977e9-85c9-43b8-a4a7-ff261ebba25b_1.txt
Luke 42079 Posted November 28, 2022 Posted November 28, 2022 Quote I have noticed that i can tell which movie does it as there will be no movie length time on the info page. Hi, I think this means that the initial scan of the new item hasn't completed yet, right?
Truck24000 1 Posted November 28, 2022 Author Posted November 28, 2022 i don't think so? as the playback error will be there even a few days from the time it was moved to my folder. if i move it out of my folder and place it on my desktop and then move it right back to original folder it will then work. I will say that i have Plex as well and same movie will play normally on Plex but will have playback issue on Emby?
Luke 42079 Posted November 28, 2022 Posted November 28, 2022 Quote if i move it out of my folder and place it on my desktop and then move it right back to original folder it will then work. OK I think the problem that we need to focus on is not the playback error itself, but how it came to not have any media info such as the runtime. Usually this means it hasn't completed being scanned into the database. In server scheduled tasks, what are the schedule triggers for the library scan?
Matts Media 1 Posted November 29, 2022 Posted November 29, 2022 It's finished scanning as most times it moved into the file and I find the issue 6 or more hours later. While same file will play fine in Plex, I prefer Emby over all of them.

The question is, can you get it to happen again with a brand new file? If you can, then please attach the emby server log from that. Thanks.
Truck24000 1 Posted November 29, 2022 Author Posted November 29, 2022 it doesn't happen all the time but when it does i will make sure i post files at that time. would you like me to do ffmpeg logs as well?

Like I said, I'm not so much concerned about the playback error because we already know what that's happening. What I want to know is why the item doesn't have media info (runtime). If we solve that, then the playback problem should take care of itself. If you can't get this to happen with a new file then all we can do is guess at what might have happened in the past, but at least we know it can be resolved with what you've discovered.
Truck24000 1 Posted December 1, 2022 Author Posted December 1, 2022 OK it just happened with a movie i downloaded last night. I didn't check them until this morning so they should be scanned into file. here are the logs and the movie was "Willow" and the issue time was 6:50 am 12/1/22. There are 3 ffmpeg logs as that's what was in my log file for the ones at that time. ffmpeg-transcode-c6fdb8b5-af9b-4777-9280-1a1ae765a795_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-99fe42c3-d1a6-4c69-8b73-cdc43adf4d2b_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-a52db752-4dc6-45b4-b516-8b27d128e211_1.txt embyserver.txt

Matts Media 1 Posted December 1, 2022 Posted December 1, 2022 But if I move the file to my desktop and move it back to original file it then plays just fine.

Matts Media 1 Posted December 1, 2022 Posted December 1, 2022 I'm confused lol cause a movie downloaded before that works fine and after that works fine. I've noticed a tv program this morning did the same thing.
Luke 42079 Posted December 1, 2022 Posted December 1, 2022 Have you compared the permissions on the file to before and after moving it back and forth? What did you find?
Matts Media 1 Posted December 1, 2022 Posted December 1, 2022 No I havnt done that, I will fo that on next one I find
visproduction 315 Posted December 2, 2022 Posted December 2, 2022 Your desktop probably has limited rights permission when the Emby server tries to access the media file. This makes sense. Every user on a workstation has their own desktop and it's locked from view from every other user. - Hope that helps.
Matts Media 1 Posted December 2, 2022 Posted December 2, 2022 But why do some movies do fine and others not? That's what has me puzzled.

Matts Media 1 Posted December 7, 2022 Posted December 7, 2022 I have not had any more issues to date, hopefully it cleared itself up. 1
Truck24000 1 Posted December 18, 2022 Author Posted December 18, 2022 spoke to soon lol i have both Emby (which is my primary player) and Plex (which my mom likes better) on the same server. Plex has had no issues playing any of the movies that i have had issues with on Emby. It cannot be a permission issue when downloaded as Plex will play it but Emby will not???? Am i still missing something here? Like i said i prefer Emby over Plex any day.
