KiraCreedeth 1 Posted November 25, 2022 Posted November 25, 2022 Hey, I have setup a host machine running Debian 11 and with couple Virtual Machines on Virtualbox. One of them is Emby Server and it is using Windows Server 2019 as quest operating system. I have enabled "advanced" options on hardware transcoding, but I can't see Intel QuickSync. I should have known this coming as thisĀ is a quest OS, but I figured to ask if anyone has successfully made it. CPU used is i5-10400. Feel free to ask any questions I might have missed here. Thanks for answers in advance!
Luke 42080 Posted November 26, 2022 Posted November 26, 2022 Hi there, have you checked out our hardware accelerations setup guide? https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001160207-hardware-acceleration-on-linux
caffeineshock 18 Posted November 28, 2022 Posted November 28, 2022 (edited) because there is no quick-sync device present in your vm. youre missing the intel uhd gpu in your vm its not that easy. what you want is to pass a pcie device through to the guest (yes, the integrated intelHD is a pcie device) how to do it? well depends on your os, your hypervisor and some options you have to enable in the bios BUT i dont think (correct me if im wrong) you cant passthrough pcie devices using virtual box since virtual box is a type2 hypervisor and has no direct access to the hardware what you need is a type1 hypervisor, like for example vmware vsphere esxi or microsoft hyper-v, which i use. ive got a rtx3070 which i can "share" between multiple vms at once (gpu-partition). maybe you have a look into it. i think KVM is also capable of pcie-passthrough but im not 100% sure Edited November 28, 2022 by caffeineshock
