winterberry 0 Posted November 25, 2022 Posted November 25, 2022 (edited) Hi, I've got the Emby app on my Sony A8H Android TV. For some reason it doesn't by default correctly pass through ATMOS to my soundbar. I am also not convinced it's doing HDR+ properly. The only way I've found to make this work as expected is to turn off transcoding for the user in the Emby server settings. This solution isn't great since my other devices require transcoding to work properly and at the moment I am using two different users to make this work, which means that progress on shows, etc, is lost. Any ideas why this may be happening? Emby app version: 2.0.83g Emby server version: 4.7.10.0 TV info: BRAVIA 4K UR3, Version 9, 1 April Security Patch, Kernel 4.9.125 Edited November 25, 2022 by winterberry
rbjtech 5284 Posted November 25, 2022 Posted November 25, 2022 Only EAC3 (DD+) and True-HD have Atmos metadata. If you are transcoding then it's highly likely the Audio (and any HDR) is being removed. You need to direct play - and from the TV App to the Soundbar - this is simply not possible for HD Audio. EAC3 with Atmos, may work over E-ARC - not sure about ARC - I think that is DD/DTS only. Providing a mediaInfo of the file would help to see what you are trying to play. 1

My soundbar triggers Atmos with DD+ going through an ARC HDMI 2.0b connection when using the Samsung app. Direct play of course. 1

Anyway - thanks for confirming ! Edited November 25, 2022 by rbjtech 1
FrostByte 5392 Posted November 25, 2022 Posted November 25, 2022 (edited) Probably can't handle the max which DD+ can do, but I believe the Bluray standard for DD+ 7.1 is only 1664 kbps (1024 extension + 640 AC3 core) which is what Dolby Encoding Engine (DEE) creates Edited November 28, 2022 by FrostByte 1

If you turned off transcoding on the server and it direct plays fine, then ATV really shouldn't need to request the server to transcode in the first place.
ebr 16179 Posted November 25, 2022 Posted November 25, 2022 Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!
