Different video formats of same movie, separate listings

Recommended Posts

I have my Christmas library set to movies and have 2 files.  A Christmas Story (1983) -4K.mkv and A Christmas Story - 1080p.mkv (I have a folder for each movie and both files are in the same folder)

I've seen if I have two formats that I would have one listing and a drop down to select the format (like audio and subtitle), but for some reason I have two separate listing for this.

Is there a setting I need to look at and did I miss something?

The first one, was the one I tried.  Where do I go for the 2nd?

The naming requirements are very precise - the start of the video file name before the hyphen must be exactly the same as the folder name - "pretty much the same" won't do.

According stated, that won't work for option 1), as all files need to be in the same folder and named accordingly, you're missing "space" before "4K" and "(Year)" in 1080p version:

Multi-version movies

Multiple versions of the same content can be stored in a single movie folder.

/Movies
  /300 (2006)
  /300 (2006)/300 (2006) - 1080p.mkv
  /300 (2006)/300 (2006) - 1080p-trailer.mp4
  /300 (2006)/300 (2006) - 4K.mkv
  /300 (2006)/300 (2006) - 720p.mp4
  /300 (2006)/300 (2006) - extended edition.mp4
  /300 (2006)/300 (2006) - directors cut.mp4
  /300 (2006)/300 (2006) - 3D.hsbs.mp4

Each version must begin with the folder name, followed by " - ".

If using the dash method anything following the dash will be what you see in the Emby client app.

What does this mean?

As shown in the kb and mentioned.

  • Movies
    • A Christmas Story (1983)
      • A Christmas Story (1983) - 1080p.mkv
      • A Christmas Story (1983) - 4K.mkv

Otherwise you need to manually group or use the plugin.

This was the issue.  I went back and noticed that the folder didn't have the year, but the two files did.  Added the year to the folder and now I'm seeing the format selection.

Thank you
