KenLinder 4 Posted November 21, 2022 Posted November 21, 2022 I have no idea why this is happening but I have a subdirectory full of episodes of the old Carol Burnette show. EMBY is going out to the web and getting subtitles for these episodes (all of them incorrect of course). I don;t want my drive filling up with files I did not say I wanted. How do I turn this 'feature' off? I know I saw something in the metadata setting but I have no idea where (or how to get there). Assistance would be appreciated.
Solution GrimReaper 4749 Posted November 21, 2022 Solution Posted November 21, 2022 Settings>Library>edit desired library, scroll to the bottom. 1
Luke 42085 Posted November 21, 2022 Posted November 21, 2022 Hi, this feature is actually off by default, so you'd turn it off in the same place that you turned it on Settings>Library>edit desired library, scroll to the bottom.
KenLinder 4 Posted November 21, 2022 Author Posted November 21, 2022 1) I unchecked Save subtitles into media folders 2) I went to Advanced->Scheduled Tasks->Download subtitles and told it not to Search the internet for missing subtitles (just in case) 3) I rebooted the server. That seems to have stopped them problem. Thanks.
Luke 42085 Posted November 21, 2022 Posted November 21, 2022 Quote 1) I unchecked Save subtitles into media folders FYI this doesn't affect whether downloads happen or not, only where they get saved to.

Chances are you'll forget that you did this, and then if you ever change your mind and want subtitles downloaded, then you'll be wondering why downloads aren't happening even though they're enabled in library options. Therefore I would instead leave the scheduled task as it was, and instead go into the options for each library and disable it there.

At the moment I am set up to "Save downloaded subtitles into media folders" but... EMBY server does what it does. not what I tell it to do. Right now it's shoving a bunch of completely unwanted (and very wrong) subtitles into "C:\Users\[MyUserName]\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\programdata\metadata\library\". The sever is not set up to act that way for this library. I swapped back to saving subtitles parallel to the media files (where they are easily found) some time ago. It had been working reasonably well. Not anymore. No changes have been made in my setup. I just checked to make sure. and still... EMBY insists on grabbing subtitles and putting them in a place I never told it to put them.

The most common reason for this is that the server is being denied write access to your media folders. If you can resolve that, then the subtitle files will be saved next to the media, assuming you have the option enabled.
