Ralph's Emby 17 Posted November 20, 2022 Posted November 20, 2022 (edited) Hello, Have Emby Premier (Version 4.8.0.19 beta) + Emby Theater (AMD 3700 + Radeon 590, RAM 32 Gig @3600 cl 18) on Windows 10 Pro. For Emby-Server I use my Domain (SSL) {thanks to @cayars } and had enjoyed very well. Since last update (not sure by Emby or Windows) started to get audio clipping or crushing issues, had checked all my audio settings and make sure are set correctly (GPU HDMI out goes to my Denon Receiver to my BenQ Projector). Also if I play an HDR File, sometimes my colors aren't fully correct, sometimes OK other little off... So yesterday I chose to activate in bios my CPU FTPM, now does offer Windows 11 (will also be 11 Pro, since I have Windows 10 Pro, correct ?) Question: any advantages I may gain with Emby-Server and Theater in Windows 11 ? Will this helps fix any audio and/or HDR I'm having have since last week ? Do I need to reinstall Emby after upgrade to 11 or no need ? Should I jump or wait a little bit more and why ? I read Windows 11 had few bugs when came out but not sure how it's doing now... Thanks in advance. Edited November 21, 2022 by Ralph's Emby

rbjtech 5284 Posted November 21, 2022 Posted November 21, 2022 On a new hardware install, I would go Win11 (as I did with my new build) - but if I was using Win10 (as I do on my backup server for example), then there is no real reason to upgrade to Win 11 imo, not for emby anyway.
Ralph's Emby 17 Posted November 21, 2022 Author Posted November 21, 2022 (edited) @rbjtech Thanks for the reply.. What about HDR.. Was told Windows 11 did resolve any HDR color issues Windows 10 have + added the Auto HDR, so I understand now (Windows 11) if I play an HDR file, it will activate the HDR without me going into Display Settings and activate it manually... or I'm wrong ? @Luke If I upgrade to 11 Pro, do I need to reinstall Emby-Server and Theater or no ?? Sunday I did some Windows updates and one stated 10 will no longer get updates after the last one (believe is for security patches), a good reason I may upgrade, just don't want to deal with a fresh install and add all my accounts and apps + settings I have in Emby..i.e. Edited November 21, 2022 by Ralph's Emby
pwhodges 2012 Posted November 21, 2022 Posted November 21, 2022 Windows 10 is supported (both support and security patches) until October 2025, so long as you install the major updates (previously twice a year, going forward once a year). I'm really miffed, because my cpu and motherboard meet the Windows 11 requirements technically, but MS have decided that my generation of cpu is not supported unless installed in a MS laptop... Paul

Just create an official install build that bypasses the checks - plenty of how to's online. I did it on old hardware using the Rufus utility - where you can select the version you want. This is (or was,,) a legitimate option - it's not a hack. 1
JoLas 26 Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 (edited) I just performed an inplace upgrade to Windows 11 22H2 on my dedicated Emby-server, didn't notice any issues and didn't have to reinstall anything. I'm running Emby Lifetime Premere latest portable x64 build located on C:\EmbyServer and using Caddy for SSL. I will later on, when I have the time, reinstall everything just to have a fresh install (ocd). But it worked just fine. Edited November 23, 2022 by JoLarsson 2
Ralph's Emby 17 Posted November 28, 2022 Author Posted November 28, 2022 @Luke Update to W11 Pro, had few days my GPU did not migrate all events from W10, had to chat with them but issue was fixed, I did not had the option to enable HDR.. However today I cannot play any HDR files from Emby, any other player will do but not Emby. I'm getting a pop up Assertion Failed! Programs... File: ../video/repack.c Expression: !(src_y & (first->fmt[0].align_y - 1)) For information on how your program can cause assertion failure, see visual C++ documentation on asserts (Press retry to debug the application - JIT must be enable) "ABORT" "RETRY" "IGNORE" Did tried all and first retry but nothings happens Again any other player VLC, PotPlayer can but not Emby and it is only my HDR files any other SDR does play Need some helps here

Luke 42081 Posted November 28, 2022 Posted November 28, 2022 Hi, yes we are looking into that. Thanks.

I'm also using Emby Theater, what's worrying, is last week I was able to play any HDR files with W11 Pro with no issues. This one (C++ issue) came from no where. Did ended playing the HDR 10 file with PotPlayer and madVR with no issues, will see if adding it as an External Player to Theater will resolve this issue or not. Will try later this week Edited November 28, 2022 by Ralph's Emby
GrimReaper 4744 Posted November 28, 2022 Posted November 28, 2022 Try using Theater Store, see how does that compare?

For Apps like this I don't feel comfortable letting Windows own and having all the control in my PC + selling all my behavior, however for troubleshooting it's good idea.

I'm not agin hacks in principle; but reading about this has left me with some questions which I don't want to use my main machine to answer. But then again, suddenly there was Black Friday, and a solution turned up in a cardboard box... Paul
