JokerLuk 0 Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 Hi, I'm new here. First of all, I apologize for my English. I have a problem with decoding. Win11 server, PC to TV (x95j) with HDMI 2.1. TV is connected to the speakers (Logitech Z906) with Toslink, no HDMI input. Logitech has support Dolby Digital/DTS. I looked at the stream info while playing various movies. Movie with Dolby Digital Plus codec has stream audio DIRECT, with Dolby Digital SOFTWARE DECODE. According to Logitech support, shouldn't it be the exact opposite? Direct on Dolby Digital Plus it doesn't bother me, but I would like to Direct on Dolby Digital. Thanks for the help.

Luke 42080 Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 Where exactly do you see software decode?
JokerLuk 0 Posted November 18, 2022 Author Posted November 18, 2022 10 minutes ago, Luke said: Where exactly do you see software decode? In the media player in the statistics. Info about stream - audio codec. I also tried movie with DTS codec -direct. Logitech Z906 has support for DTS and Dolby Digital.

I understand that, but as I wrote in the first post and it can be seen in the pictures: Movie with DD+ codec has stream audio DIRECT, with DD SOFTWARE DECODE. According to Logitech support and Toslink connection, shouldn't it be the exact opposite? DTS is direct, so DD should be direct too. DD is my problém, not DD+.
ebr 16185 Posted November 19, 2022 Posted November 19, 2022 Ah, okay. Can you please play that item for a few seconds and then follow the instructions to send a log from the app? Please send the log right from the playback OSD. Thanks.

JokerLuk 0 Posted November 19, 2022 Author Posted November 19, 2022 The Movie being played was Nope DD codec - software decoded. User Lukáš
ebr 16185 Posted November 19, 2022 Posted November 19, 2022 Hi. The example you sent is a 7.1 track which is not supported over optical. Edit: Okay, that was at the start of playback. Then you switched to the 5.1 DD track and it is direct playing. Did you confirm that the stats still said it was decoding in software? That may be a display issue due to the fact that you started with the THD track that was software decoding.

How am I supposed to understand this picture? AC3 5.1 isn't native, but decoded from TrueHD? So the movie with only DD will be direct? Thanks for helping.
ebr 16185 Posted November 19, 2022 Posted November 19, 2022 Hi. There are two audio tracks. The True HD one is the default so it was automatically selected when you first played it. Then you selected the plain DD track and it switched to that. The DD track is direct playing to your receiver (you should see that indication on the receiver).

Possibly but did you confirm that was still the case in the example you sent the log from? Also, you may need to wait 10 seconds after the audio switch for the display to update. I can tell you from your log that, once you switched tracks, it was bitstreaming the DD.

Also, you may need to wait 10 seconds after the audio switch for the display to update. I can tell you from your log that, once you switched tracks, it was bitstreaming the DD. Yes, I set the AC3 codec, cca 30 seconds playing, info about stream was DD (software decode) and than I sent the log. Even if I set the AC3 codec before playing the movie, it still shows DD (software decode). Maybe I could try playing the movie with just the single DD codec, if that would tell us anything. Bittstreaming is the same as passthrough?
ebr 16185 Posted November 19, 2022 Posted November 19, 2022 51 minutes ago, JokerLuk said: Bittstreaming is the same as passthrough? Yes. Does your outboard audio equipment allow you to see the signal it is receiving?
JokerLuk 0 Posted November 20, 2022 Author Posted November 20, 2022 5 hours ago, ebr said: Yes. Does your outboard audio equipment allow you to see the signal it is receiving? There is only a decode light. I tried a movie with a single DD codec audio source, there was direct. The problem with the DD software decode is therefore only for a movie that also contains TrueHD, maybe another one codec. So either it's just showing up incorrectly, or there's a problem with multiple audio codecs.
