Better method to update media.

Beyond tired of adding new episode to season and being forced to wait around hours for it to actually show up in my library. Even though I have settings to automatically update library when change is detected. I still add an episode, and still after manually telling it to scan library. Scan completes and still have to wait around some time for hours even after restarting server, network and player just to watch a new episode as it takes entirely too long to show up in library.

Can you elaborate as I get updates in about 90 seconds with RTM.  So more information is need on your setup.  Or if I do library scan media is available in usually around the same amount of time.

Hi, what exactly never happens?

Virus checker needing to check all files first, before allowing any other file action?  Or even more delay, 2 virus checkers.  Just a guess.

@Luke Give you an example?. Well, I use other software that monitors my media for when new TV shows air and are available. It automatically adds the shows to my media library on a NAS server. The same media library that Emby accesses for my media. I have emby settings where it's supposed to monitor my library for changes such as new episodes/movies being added and display them through emby so when a new movie for example is added to my media files, I can go through Emby app and on the homepage, it has Continue watching, latest TV, latest Movies, Latest Music, etc. where it shows recently added media. Where when a new movie or TV show, etc. has been added to my NAS media library and it'll show up on my homepage. well, it's supposed to. Sometimes it detects new media files have been added and shows up on my homepage instantly. Sometimes it'll take a moment to show up but most of the time I'll have to go through the admin log in/settings/library and right click on TV, or movies and select scan library for changes and occasionally that'll force it to show on homepage that a show I added and want to watch is available but most of the time the scan will run to 100% and nothing. I'll navigate to homepage and it doesn't show that anything new has been added. I'll navigate to the show, Season, and look at what's available and it's not showing that a new episode is available through emby  even though the episode or movies is in my NAS media library Emby refuses to show that it's available so I can watch it. Even after restart, or multiple times telling it to scan library for changes/new media it'll complete the scan and not show that anything new has been added forcing me to go to my computer, and navigate through my files then cast to my device bypassing Emby. But Just one of multiple issues I've been experiencing with emby. as I just messaged you on another issue having to repeatedly go through lengthy process just to access Emby on two of my devices. I'm not to happy with Emby.

@SDHoover Can't say I have even seen what you are describing but probably need to see server logs for a specific example when it happens.

Almost sounds like permissions or iNotify.

@Happy2Play I have no clue what iNotify is, But if it were something with permissions it would be a consistent issue. Either consistent with all media, or at the very least only affect certain media in my library. As this is a random occurrence type of issue and the only consistency, I've experienced with this issue is that it's been ongoing randomly since I first started to use Emby many, many years ago. Throughout the many years across many diverse types of storage media, permission settings, Library configurations,  ran from different hardware Been many times I've updated my library files with new media and Emby's "scan library files" scan completed but didn't show some or all of the recently added media through Emby. Does always eventually show up. Minutes, hours later it always shows up. but at times it's something I want to watch then not hours later or when Emby decides to display the new media. I also run a Plex media server that accesses the same NAS for media and when it scans for new media the media in same folders with same permissions always shows up within a couple minutes. By time Plex's library scan is complete the new media shows available.

@SDHoover Really depends on your setup and possibly different programs placing your media as it can all affect permissions.  Inotify is what is used for real time monitoring assuming it works on your setup.

Can you do a library scan and post the server log.

Hi.  Yes, please do this but we probably need to see a server log from when you added something and it didn't appear after a few minutes.  I also suspect the iNotify limit.

@EBR, Give me a bit. This hasn't been a consistent issue. randomly with different shows. And I've noticed for many years. I've done research and hasn't been consistent with no luck only decided to post it now because I've had another issue I've reported also.  I've been recently running on a TrueNas Scale system and they've made some changes preventing it from updating due to the Simple PVC storage option no longer being supported so I have to wipe out and set server back up and it tends to take days to update all my media since Emby saves all it's metadata in its own folders instead of in the media folders itself, where My download software already has the metadata and images stored.

Hi.  This is an option you can choose for each library in Emby.  Also, if metadata exists in the media folders, it will be read regardless of this option.

@ebr, You're right, I forgot they added that feature. Thanks you.
