tnowakow 0 Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 (edited) Hi Everyone, Wondering if its possible to set up device options in regards to transcoding/conversion. Example, I have a few AV1 files that play natively on a few streaming devices (MeCool KM6, FireTV Stick 4k MAX, Newest FireTV Cube). Right now I have a user set up with the setting to allow media playback, and everything else unchecked (no transcoding or conversion allowed). The files play fine and natively on the AV1 H/W enabled boxes. If I check the boxes to allow transcode/conversion settings though, for some reason Emby still wants to transcode or convert when playing to those specific devices. I don't want that because I tested and they can play natively. However, I do have non-AV1 media that still does require transcoding on some of my other streaming boxes. Wondering if there's a way to set up a 'device profile' to never transcode/convert files when played on those specific devices but then everything works as normal on the others? Thank you tn Edited November 16, 2022 by tnowakow
Luke 42085 Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 Hi there, when it transcodes, did you explore the stats feature in the video player to learn the reason why?
Happy2Play 9783 Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 Without server and ffmpeg logs I would guess this a remote user with playback quality set to Auto and Auto is being conservative with bandwidth and converting to a lower level. Emby will direct play when possible but Remote users may not be able to use Auto. But appling a high playback quality on a remote user can be problematic also when the connection quality drops.

I did, the server says 'converting video to compatible codec' and the stats for nerds says conversion reason: unsupported video. Attaching two pictures where one shows the transcode, and the other shows the direct play after I change the user setting to not allow transcoding/conversion
Luke 42085 Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 Hi. Can you try sideloading our standard android app on the same device and see how that compares? https://emby.media/emby-for-android.html Thanks.

So looks to be an issue with the Android TV App
Solution Luke 42085 Posted November 18, 2022 Solution Posted November 18, 2022 Great. You can use the standard app in the meantime as it fully supports TV devices.
