What's the criteria for a open subtitles hash match?

I have nearly 1000 movies and not one gets a match.

Thanks

Hi mate, can you get any results without the hash option? It's basically trying to match the hash (usually pirated version, res/length etc..) of the video along with the also pirated version of the subs.

Here in AU all these sites are blocked by the ISP, so some DNS tricks are needed.

Most pirated stuff comes from one higher source, then they mux it down from there. Just try some non hash stuff, it will prob be ok.

I can yeah.

I'm just wondering what value the hash match option brings then, i.e. what's the point in the option?

Thanks

Because it means that the subtitles on open subtitles matching via hash have been designed specifically for the exact same video file that you have. That makes it more likely that the subtitle timings will be in sync with the video.

I understand that, but when you don't get a single match from nearly 1000 movies, it's either pointless or doesn't work?

It just depends on where your videos come from.

I've had a lot more trouble with this same issue recently. While in past years I was able to search for subtitles and it would almost always find them, now it doesn't, and I have to download manually. Is it enough that Emby recognizes the title? or is there different metadata that it matches on? such as imdb id or something like that? because i have saved login information for opensubtitles plugin, and I know there are many subtitles available for this title, and emby recognizes the title as what it is. thanks

Logic for subtitle downloads is Hash > Name > IMDB Id, with hash only being applicable to OpenSubtitles. If multiple matches are found, first one returned from provider is used.

so based on this it checks for Name if it doesn't find anything with the Hash, and only goes to IMDB ID if it doesn't find anything with the Name? so if emby server loads the movie with the proper name, but can't find anything in the subtitle search, what else could be wrong?

Is your library setting set to require hash match? If it is, you will get very limited number of subs, and name/imdbid won't apply.
