It appears for some reason, my EPG isn't updating. Is this common? I tried doing a manual update about 3 times, and only half the channels were updated with content.

Hi, what is your EPG source? Has the source been updated with new data?

I'm not sure if I know how to find out if it has. The provider I use doesn't really offer a way to find out. The only thing I can do is refresh the EPG on Emby. I suppose these things can happen. I was just shocked being I mapped really popular channels.

iptv epg is generally rubbish. if you want a nice experience you need to find a better source and deal with the config issues that presents. once setup its many times better though

I actually used the one given by my IPTV provider, just because it automatically mapped at least half of the channels I turned on. It saved me a lot of labor. Then I used Emby's internal EPG using two different local providers. And it looks like Emby's EPG feature is the one that refreshed, while the EPG from my provider has not populated. These are the things I haven't read many people talk about. I'm beginning to realize that IPTV is a lot more of a pain in the *ss than I realized. I wanted to cut my cable so bad, but, I don't think the technology is perfect enough yet. I just know I'm gonna wind up purchasing a new HDHomeRun, and a digital cable card. I just know it.

it depends what your drivers are. if you want simplicity to set up and reliability of programming/recording then iptv isnt your answer. if you want channels that you can't even get OTA, are prepared to accept a degree of unreliability and are prepared to put the work in to configure your setup then iptv can be great.

personally i want both, so i have both. i spend quite a bit of time curating a m3u (from both an OTA source and a couple of itpv providers) and epg (separately paid for) file outside of emby in itpv boss and providing that to emby. once set up it doesnt need much, if any, ongoing maintenance
