Latest Server Update Disabled "Allow Remote Connections"

After updating my Emby Server (running on Synology NAS) to version 4.7.8.0, my family could no longer connect to my server remotely.

I noticed that "Allow remote connections to this Emby Server" was disabled.

I can re-enable this, but I don't recall the settings I had originally.

Any ideas on how to get this working again?  Thanks

HI, the update did not do this. So I guess for starters, did you try re-enabling the option?

Hi @Luke,  this is the only change I've made to the server (that I can recall). Yes, I have tried re-enabling "Allow remote connection to the Emby Server", but still not working.

I have checked my Ports using canyouseeme.org and they are both working.

The IP address for my NAS has not changed.

I've checked the configuration for my domain and it appears to be configured correctly.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

@Luke

I'm able to connect internally via local host with no problems.

Remote WAN access: https://(mydomain):port#

  • I've tried access remotely using domain only and with port# and neither one works. Tested using Smartphone with WiFi disabled.
  • As I mentioned above, I have checked my Ports using canyouseeme.org and they are both working.

I'm baffled with this one.

Maybe try disabling https to rule out the problem being certificate related.

For those Synology NAS users that are allowing access to their Emby servers remotely (i.e. domain), would you be willing to share your learnings

Sure thing. Where can I disable that from?

Posted

The same place you set it up, in Emby Server network settings.

Thanks. Did not work: Cannot Load this Page

Cannot load what page? What exactly did you do?

Posted

Sorry for lack of details. I disabled HTTPS and tried to access my Domain for Emby Server remotely and the browser page would not load.

Are you sure you used the right URL? Where did you get it from?

Posted

Yes, I'm using the correct URL. The same one I've been using. It's the URL that is shown on my Emby Dashboard - Remote WAN Access: https://URL:port#

Does this answer your question? Thanks for your help.

Well if your dashboard still shows https then you haven't disabled it. What exactly did you do there? What exactly does it show? Try connecting by ip address.

I tried connecting via IP address, it took me to Synology "Web Station". This is one of the components that was used in the original configuration over a year ago. @tomnjerry74 helped me with this configuration. Not sure if this setup is still the way to go

You probably need to add the port into the url with the ip address.

Even when I add the Port to the URL, I get this screen:

Web Station has been enabled. To finish setting up your website, please see the "Web Service" section of DSM Help.

What is the full url?

xxxxxxxxx

If you meant the WAN IP Address, I can send that to you via an Emby Message.

I thought we were testing http to try and rule out a certificate problem?

To enable WAN access / URL, I have not seen away to get around HTTPS unless it's a local IP address.

Sorry @Luke, but I must be missing something

Why do you think you can't connect without https?

Sorry for this misunderstanding. I just tried it with HTTP and I'm still getting "Site Cannot Be Reached"

What port forwarding have you configured in your router?

Posted (edited)

80 and 443

None of this has changed
