Emby - Android playback status -> emby ->kodi for emby?

Not really sure where to put this one, but here's what i have.

Emby on Linux; accessible on internet. Emby is sync'd to Kodi using Emby for Kodi Next Gen. I also watch series on my mobile device via the download feature. Both the kodi & the Android app are using the same user.

I suppose i expect that the playback position/status is sync'd by both client devices - so when emby mobile app is being watched, and i stop the show there, eventually (hopefully fairly soon after) if there is mobile coverage, the status is pushed back to Emby, and then at the next sync job, Kodi would be updated with watched status, and the current positon of any shows.

Likewise, i watch the episode on kodi, eventually i expect the played-to position to be sync'd back to emby, and then eventually an updated resume point on the downloaded show in my android phone.

 

It seems like this is not happening. Are my expectations wrong, and any suggestions on how i can troubleshoot this?

A point of clarification. It does seem eventually that the resume point of android is sync'd to emby, and on to kodi.

However, the finished (downloaded) episodes on the mobile app are not being marked as played in emby or kodi.

When playback is continued on kodi, the playback position is sync'd back in to emby, and in emby for android, if i navigate to the tv show in that menu, i see the correct resume point- however  in the downloads list, i see the old position/not updated...
