ChrisJ60 13 Posted November 2, 2022 Posted November 2, 2022 (edited) Emby server 4.7.8.0 on Synology DS1821+ running DSM 7.1.1 update 1. I have been setting up Emby on my NAS to match the setup on my Mac mini. I added their final library on the NAS (Music). Emby finished the media scan but now if I try to access Emby using the Web UI, as soon as I try to go into the Music library then the Web UI no longer refreshes. If I look at the NAS I see that the EmbyServer process is spinning at 100% CPU. It does this indefinitely and I am not able to stop the EmbyServer using the Package Manager on the NAS. I have to actually use the command line to kill -TERM the EmbyServer process. In the log (attached) I am seeing a lot of these errors: Application path: /volume1/@appstore/EmbyServer/system System.IO.IOException: System.IO.IOException: The configured user limit (8192) on the number of inotify watches has been reached, or the operating system failed to allocate a required resource. Source: TargetSite: No Stack Trace Available Seems that maybe Emby is not handling this error particularly well? Please advise on how to resolve this issue. embyserver.txt.zip Edited November 2, 2022 by ChrisJ60 Fixed soem typos

ChrisJ60 13 Posted November 3, 2022 Author Posted November 3, 2022 Thanks for the pointer. I have implemented that and now I no longer see the error in the logs. I still seem to have a problem with the Music library causing the Emby server to spin at 100% Could and become unresponsive (so I guess that issue was not related to the inotify issue) but I have removed that Library. I will try re-adding it to see if the issue occurs again.

ChrisJ60 13 Posted November 4, 2022 Author Posted November 4, 2022 It was just speculation as to a possible cause of the problem. Subsequent work has shown that it was not directly related to the issue. 1
ChrisJ60 13 Posted November 4, 2022 Author Posted November 4, 2022 I was, but since I don't really need the Music library I just removed it. Problem (kind of) solved. The same files in the same library configuration on macOS has no problems.
Luke 42078 Posted November 4, 2022 Posted November 4, 2022 Turning off the realtime monitor on each of your emby libraries may have been an alternate solution.
ChrisJ60 13 Posted November 4, 2022 Author Posted November 4, 2022 (edited) But I really want to use the real-time monitoring... I still have 3 libraries (Films, TV, Music Videos) containing over 3,000 directories and over 26,000 media files and since I increased the OS inotify limits everything works just fine and EmbyServer uses almost no CPU on the NAS even when streaming a 4K film (I don't allow any transcoding). As soon as I add the music library however it all goes to pot. Luckily I don't need to use Emby for Music. Edited November 4, 2022 by ChrisJ60 Added extra sentence.
