Regarding the original issue, I think this will be improved in the upcoming 4.8 server release.

And now it's over 3 years later and same thing in v. 4.9.1.90:

  1. User must refresh the page to get the images to populate or get any changes to show after meta refresh.
  2. Emby generated genre images still do not work properly or consistently.

Tell me that the administrators do not care about these features, without telling me the administrators do not care about these features...

Hi there, what makes you think that emby generated genre images still do not work properly?

I just tested this, deleting the cover images for several playlists. Then I did Refresh Metadata and selected Replace Images. The resulting new, generated thumbnail cover images still have 4 identical tiles from a single album. Could you please try this yourself @Luke. This is not fixed even in the new Windows Emby server released today.

If it's helpful for debugging, Genre cover images are now recreated properly (though manual trigger still seems to be needed), but Playlist cover images are not.
