Intro Skipping Freezes

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hello,

I tried using the intro skipping feature and it seems hit or miss. Its a bummer that you can't use it when the show starts out with an intro. Other than that it seems to work well for some shows and not at all for others. For example, when I try to watch the TV show Friends with intro skip enabled it always freezes the when the intro starts. Not sure if it is because the intro is so long or what, but wondering if anything can be done to fix it.

Thanks

Do you have auto-skip enabled or are you hitting the skip button at this point?

I have autoskip enabled.

Okay, so if you simply try to seek manually in that same item, does it also have trouble?

I don't think this has anything to do with introskip.  I think it is likely a problem with the media that the Roku player doesn't like.

I just tried and manual skip does work so it is not a detection issue.  I tried autoskip on two different kinds of roku devices and it didnt work on either which is a bummer.

Edit: Nevermind. The skip button shows up while the intro plays but if you click it then it freezes.

Hi. Did you try just seeking the file manually?

Right after you start playing, hit the right arrow on your remote to seek ahead regardless of the intro.

Yea I've tried that. Itll freeze when you get to the intro. It'll stay frozen but you can manually fast forward past it.

I believe the point @ebr is trying to understand - is can you simply 'skip' (ffwd, +30 secs etc) to another place in the media without issues on the Roku ?

Introskip uses exactly the same method to 'skip' but to a predetermined place - so if normal ffwd fails(freezes), then so will introskip.

You can skip forward and backwards without a problem. However if you happen to skip to where the intro is it will freeze on a black screen.

Okay, so if you completely disable the skip option, does it play and seek fine?

If the intro skip is disabled then yes it does play and seek fine

Okay, so you say this is only the case on some items, correct?  What is different about those items from the ones that work okay?

The only thing I can tell is that the intros are significantly shorter for the ones where it does work.

Can we look at specific details?  This happens with an entire series or just some episodes in a series?  Different series?

It doesn't work for any that I have tested for that series. I will get the logs for a different series where it does work and send them over when I get some time.

And if you play one of the problem episodes in the web app, intro skip works fine?

Posted

Just checked, yes it works on the web app.

Is it only with certain files?

It has happened in all the episodes that I have tried for one show. It occasionally happens on other shows and this is likely episode specific.
