ChrisBowman 1 Posted October 22, 2022 Posted October 22, 2022 I have my Emby server setup on my windows 11 PC. I use it to stream on LAN only, on a few TVs in my house. I access it daily, mostly just to update my libraries when I add/remove content. Suddenly my password no longer works. This is odd as it's saved in autofill and it's always worked just fine. So, I just followed the steps laid out in the support article (https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44002332220-admin-password-reset). However, when I go to login with my username and leave the password section blank it give me an error "Invalid username or password. Please try again.". I restarted Emby and the PC to no avail. The issue persists. Thanks in advance for your help!

ChrisBowman 1 Posted October 22, 2022 Author Posted October 22, 2022 It sounds like I'm probably confused. That's what I interpreted this message to mean: "Passwords have been removed for the following users. To login, sign in with a blank password" Password Reset Passwords have been removed for the following users. To login, sign in with a blank password. Password Reset Password Reset Passwords have been removed for the following users. To login, sign in with a blank password. Passwords have been removed for the following users. To login, sign in with a blank password."

ChrisBowman 1 Posted October 22, 2022 Author Posted October 22, 2022 That's correct. I just get the aforementioned error stating invalid username or password. I've tried a couple of times too with no success. I did confirm the server is running too. I can access the library On my TV.
GrimReaper 4740 Posted October 22, 2022 Posted October 22, 2022 Have you tried from another browser maybe?
ChrisBowman 1 Posted October 22, 2022 Author Posted October 22, 2022 Indeed. I have Google Chrome and MS Edge and tried them both. The result is the same.
GrimReaper 4740 Posted October 22, 2022 Posted October 22, 2022 Just to reconfirm you're doing it on local connection? Anyway, you might edit user.db and remove password directly, LocalUsersv2 table. If you're uncomfortable with SQL database editing, you might zip it and PM it to @cayars Emby needs to be shut down before either operation. 1
ChrisBowman 1 Posted October 22, 2022 Author Posted October 22, 2022 (edited) Correct, it's a local connection. Thanks for the suggestion! When I get home I'll try to Google the steps and give it a whirl. Otherwise I'll get it zipped and send it over. Edited October 22, 2022 by ChrisBowman
ChrisBowman 1 Posted October 22, 2022 Author Posted October 22, 2022 So, I did a little research and quickly realized I have no business completing the steps above. It's just a bit over my head at this point and I'd likely make things worse. So, which files should I be zipping and sending to cayers and where would I find them? Apologies in advance for the "noob" questions. I'm computer literate, just by no means a superuser, so to speak.
GrimReaper 4740 Posted October 22, 2022 Posted October 22, 2022 No worries. It's a single "users.db" file in install-dir\programdata\data (under Windows default is C:\Users\YOURUSER\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\programdata\data). Shut down Emby before copying. 1
Carlo 4561 Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 This was changed and sent back to Chris. Waiting to see it worked or not. 1
ChrisBowman 1 Posted October 23, 2022 Author Posted October 23, 2022 Hi all. I really appreciate your help. I shut down Emby, downloaded the attached user.db replacement file, dragged it back into the same folder where I initially copied it from and chose the "replace" option. After that, I opened Emby, selected the admin below, typed in the provided login from cayers and received the sign in error below. It's just so weird that everything has worked perfectly for months, and then just stopped working out of nowhere. Let me know if you think there's anything else I can try. I don't mind setting everything back up though if necessary. It's a pretty simple setup and I only have 3 libraries (movies, shows, sports). @cayars 1. 2.
Carlo 4561 Posted October 26, 2022 Posted October 26, 2022 That should have worked.Try going into your browser and clear all info for your site. Make sure to reset cache, stored password and cookies. Then try it again. If that still doesn't work try these things next. 1. same username but leave the password field blank. Make sure to login from a LAN computer or the server itself. 2. Click the Forgot Password link shown in the screenshot above after filling in admin for the username. Does this give you a location to a file? If you open the referenced file it should have instructions and a URL to use to set a new password. 3. shutdown Emby Server. We're going to edit a file that is in the config folder. The config directory is at the same level as the data directory you grabbed the user.db from. With a text editor (notepad on windows is fine) open the file named system.xml. Set this value to true. Save the file and restart Emby Server. This should rerun the setup wizard giving you a chance to change the password. Alternately create a new username and password that will be an admin on the system. You can then login with that username and use it to fix your first account. You can leave the second account if you wish but I'd set account up so it never shows on logins screens. 1 1
ChrisBowman 1 Posted October 27, 2022 Author Posted October 27, 2022 I will try this after work today and let you know. Sorry for the late reply.
ChrisBowman 1 Posted October 27, 2022 Author Posted October 27, 2022 This worked. I'm in! Thanks so much for all of your help. 1
