Howdy. I'm checking this plugin out and was running into this duplicate entry in continue watching as well. Another thing I'm after is top picks to ignore the home screen system based toggle "Hide fully played content from latest media" I do take advantage and use that toggle but it causes top picks to only generate a few items in its latest media row if that toggle is on and I've watched it all.

Wow, blast from the past if it is! Amazing!

I spent quite a bit of time thinking about how to fix these issues from inside the plugin.

Unfortunately, because the top pick is just pointing back to the actual item, it doesn't allow us to alter the state of the top pick.

I thought about letting the code alter the state of the original metadata, but it's tricky, and figured it might not go over well. 

The ironic thing is, the top pick mirrors the library item, but it creates its own entry into the database, which causes it to show up in the 'continue watching' row... twice

I mean talk about a 'lose, lose' situation.

If something changes in the future, that allows me to remedy these things, I'll add it right away.

Or, if someone has some ideas about metadata and .strm/.nfo files in emby... I'd be very interested in hearing any ideas. 

I'd write and test anything in the code to fix the duplicate issues. 

It also drives me nuts.

Yep yep. It def is me. Hope life is treating you well and you are still finding time to rock out! Sorry if I didnt read back enough to discover where the progress was on these things and the hassles they have caused you. For now I'm going to turn off the home screen options of showing a latest row/continue watching for this and just have it be an library entry for family to go in and see the top 9. I like the concept of this and hoping I have it setup to provide the experience I want after a couple weeks of it being in place with my family. I would even be down for this to be broken down into two plugins, one for tv side only, one for movie side only. That way I can have two top 9's instead of a mixed top 9. Keep up the great work my dude.

That's not the first time I've heard it should be split into two libraries (tv/movies).

Inorder to split it up, I'll have to look at the code again. 

It's not impossible to do, I was kind of procrastinating the work. 

It would have to be an option to split the library up.

When enabled, Top picks would create two libraries in the system,  for each type.

That's easy enough.

The hard part is toggling it back off. That would involve removing libraries in the code . I think that was the part I wasn't sure if I should write or not.

Also wasn't sure if it was possible to remove a library in the ILibraryManager object.

 

I'll take a look, and see what is possible

Hi @chef- Yes in my original recommendations hack, duplicate items in 'continue watching' was always a problem.    Simply put, the strm link is classed as valid 'media' (and should be), thus it's always going to show.

What is needed is another 'link' type that emby recognises, but the 'next up/continue watching etc' ignores it, it's only valid for direct library use.

Of preference thought, is for them to actually release a decent 'Smart Playlist' functionality based on viewing video's as opposed to Audio tracks ... 

After all these years, they keep promising it - but nothing ever happens - The Smart Playlist 2.0 from a 3rd party developer has been carrying their core product as the only solution today (you know all about that ...)   

The old playlists themselves got a recent 'makeover' - - now you have a concept of 'basic permissions - private or public playlsists' - wow - advanced stuff [sarcasm].  You can't even assign users to them .. fail...

I totally agree with this! I love Emby but the lack of smart playlist functions and library views is really sad (video wise). Apps like kodi/xbmc have had this for years with a skin-able interface too boot!

I guess it's just too hard for these dev's, they just don't want to tackle this! They just like to tickle the edges...

Okay, I believe that is an easy one to fix.

There must be a flag in the library settings, that needs to be set to false when it gets created.

Is it only me where Top Picks no longer works at all? I've tried to reinstall it by deleting the plugin and all related files. But after reinstalling it doesn't work any better.

I purchased this plugin today. It worked once then when I told it to update again now it does nothing. Can we get some help here dev? I'm on Version 4.8.0.39 beta.
 

Does this plugin only go based off of plays on my server or does it reach out to some community recommendations database like rotten tomatoes or trakt or something? I just had to start my build over from scratch so no movies or shows have been watched yet. Could that be the problem? Log is below...

Lets give him a week to reply, if no response, then the plugin should probably be removed from the Catalogue imo, especially as it's a paid for download.

It goes by plays on the server, and it only looks back a certain amount of days.

I just purchased this today and I must say it's pretty great @chef, getting lots of good feedback from the users.

My only feedback would be

• Options to split out into TV and Movies (two sections instead of one)
• Increase to Ten instead of Nine.
• Ability to rename Top Picks to something else?

Yeah it's a great plugin!

Most of your feedback has been asked before from memory, separate tv/movies would be nice. There are problems that come with that (extra virtual library) which could cause problems. (continue watching/recommended/searches)

I think why @chef stopped at 9 was the numbers got too big for the generated thumb/poster.

Rename to something else is new to me. I'm not sure if that's possible for a plugin? You don't like the name? What would you suggest/want to change it to?

I would like to see it more as recommendations than top picks.

It would be great as a recommendation system for movies similar to them i have already watched, instead of seeing movies i watched the last week, as i can remember what i watched.

If you don't have 50 people on your server and you are the one watching the most, you will always see the movies you watched last week, so recommendations like netflix has would be better IMO.

Yeah that's fair. I guess it's all about how you use the plugin. I don't use "User Engagement" and just create my own (personal/admin) custom list that I like/need/recommend to watch..

Top Picks creates a mixed-content type library, you can rename it just as any other regular library on your server: Settings>Library tab>three-dot menu or right click Top Picks thumb>Rename.

Hey Together, i used Top Pics as trial some weeks ago and uninstalled & removed it afterwards.

Now i wanted to use it again, bought and installed it again. but it is not working any more....maybe you have some tips for me?

i can chose some movies and series and add them to the list, but when i hit on save & update list nothing happens. 

when i again browse back to that page the list is empty again.

 

and there is no Top Pics folder in bibliothek any more. (i deleted it manual in the past when removing trial)

 

and some other hint, when i am using windows emby client, there is no scrollbar on pluginpage.

 

i would be very happy if i got some help on that.

i've done a further cleanup on filebase on filesystem, and now a reinstall fixed it.

Whats still a problem:

1) scrollbar on windows emby client not existing, no scrolling

2) when i add some TV Series to Top Picks, where not all episodes of the latest season exists(because is it not aired yet), top picks not recognize that and display all episodes from all seasons available without thumbnail and also linking them wrong. i have a series with 8 seasons. 2 episodes in 8th season. but S08E03 etc. is linking to some other seasons (e.g. S07E03)

Any Tipps on that?
