Some good news here actually.

We've moved on into a new object reference exception. LOL!

We have successfully been able to get the season data when getting images and metadata on the fly.

Wonderful.

Next I will move onto the episode level, and squash the next set of bugs.

Thank you very much for your time.

EDIT: and I found it!

@Darkseidd

.54

creates the missing nfo for episodes if one doesn't exist to copy over.

Emby.TopPicks_1.0.0.54.zip

This is what I believe is causing that last reference error. I'm pretty sure.

But I did have a question, if you look under the library tab and select "Top Picks".

Is the option for saving NFO files enabled for the library?

I had expected the library scan to create the NFO files. But, that didn't happen.

I guess I misunderstood that part.

If that works then an NFO file must be present, and Emby will fill in the blanks... Maybe 🤔

library wrong order still happens, only small percentage of time it can sort correctly.

image.thumb.png.dfb80a1b4aafc11bce007a91a079f663.png

i got question

1. in auto schedule task, can we limit top picks number to certain amount? like top 7 or top 5 only. i think my raspi hardware unable to handle 9 without crashes.

2. any option to force the order, ourselves, at library level?

3. anyway to limit resource used for Update Top Picks task? i dont mind longer time, but i do mind server crashes.

4. if new media being added while library scans for top picks  happen, can we signal either task to wait for other task, to complete first?

Ok. A lot has been learned about what emby might be doing under the hood.

This is good. It means we are on the right track.

I will continue.

I believe we can do most of that yes.

i have another question,

if one tvseries have 1000+ episodes (for example, One Piece or Detective Conan), will Top Picks generate nfos and strm file for all of them?

i tried to play around with Movies top picks which crash my server, and found this:

at movie top picks, the movie item link is http://<internal IP>:8096/web/index.html?#!/item?id=222408&serverId=dbd8993fedd1414197abfdcdfed9d77f

I search for the movie, and the movie media link is this : http://<internal IP>:8096/web/index.html?#!/item?id=101344&serverId=dbd8993fedd1414197abfdcdfed9d77f. using this link, I am able to go to the movie no issue

If i copy and paste directly link from Movie Top Picks, it will definitely crash my server. log as attachment

*EDIT* trimming log, too many noise

Yes, they will be small files, but yes that will happen.

I will add the ability to change the location of the library, so it won't bog down the raspi, or other sbcs running emby.

I should create an advanced tab in the configuration page which will allow you to change the library folder path to somewhere else.

Updated to .54 and the sort order is still not correct when set to sort by date added even after updating the Top Picks

The home screen isn't show the items in order?

Or still just the inside the library?

Actually, edit that...

Perhaps I am seeing something here.

Is it that tv shows are in order with themselves, and movies seem to be in order with themselves, but the line up seems to be "movie, series, movie, series, etc".

I have no tv shows in top picks just 9 movies now and out of order both on the Home Screen and the top picks library.  Library sorted by date added

Okay, I'm going to add the date added values to the log, so we can see specifically what is happening.

is your emby crashes *silently* ? out of order happens to me when emby *silently* crash during library scans process. at my server,i can tell this happened when the log truncate around top picks' library scan timing

EDIT: Wait you have simpsons, have many episodes there in total? could be causing the *silent* crash as well when top picks generating metadata, thus "bursting" the service

EDIT2: ah you dont have tvshows in top picks

Would it be possible to implicitly set a release date in the top pick item’s NFO file to ensure a proper sort instead of using the file creation date? Apparently Emby uses the NFO data if present.

set a release date

You mean Date Added, as Release Date has absolutely no influence here (nor should it be touched)?

Right, sorry it was early for me this morning when I posted.

AFAIK that should already be happening (and it is what enables Top Picks items to be sorted numerically when sorted bt Date Added), as all my Top Picks items do have proper <dateadded> NFO tag upon creation - and all are created off library items' NFO files (without Internet access) with different Date Added/File creation dates.

Indeed the dateadded dates and times are there. See screenshot of the TopPIcks created NFO files.

In my top picks,

#1 Windfall 03/06/2023 07:00:00

#2 Somebody I used to Know 03/06/2023 06:00:00

#3 Jung_E 03/06/2023 05:00:01

#4 A Cure for Wellness 03/06/2023 04:00:02

#5 Bob's Burgers Movie 03/06/2023 03:00:08

#6 Star Trek First Contact 03/06/2023 02:00:08

#7 A man called Otto 03/06/2023 01:00:09

#8 Young Frankenstein 03/06/2023 00:00:10

#9 Alien 03/05/2023 23:00:10

When sorted by Date added Descending my display order is 2,3,8,1,5,7,9,4,6

When sorted by Date added ascending my display order is 6,4,9,7,5,1,8,3,2
