neik 873 Posted October 15, 2022 Posted October 15, 2022 Just got into a new flat where I want to append the available DVB-C channels into my Emby Server. To do so I would need to use one of the Backend provider (TVH, DVBViewer, etc.) and am wondering now what happens if the LiveTV needs to be transcoded (e.g. bandwith limitation)? Will the backend passthrough the stream to Emby and Emby will handle the transcoding? Hope it's somehow clear what I mean. Thank you!
Q-Droid 989 Posted October 15, 2022 Posted October 15, 2022 It depends. TVH is configurable and has a passthrough profile though I don't know what options DVBViewer has. Ideally you want the tuner/backend to send the raw streams to Emby because it's the clients that determine whether a stream needs to be transcoded and you can't make that decision at the backend. What you want to avoid is the extra overhead of transcoding at the backend and then again by Emby.
Spaceboy 2573 Posted October 15, 2022 Posted October 15, 2022 dvbviewer also has a profile for the raw streams
Solution Luke 42078 Posted October 16, 2022 Solution Posted October 16, 2022 Quote Will the backend passthrough the stream to Emby and Emby will handle the transcoding? Yes.
neik 873 Posted October 16, 2022 Author Posted October 16, 2022 So, it behaves like I thought it would. Thank you! 1
