sciphi 1 Posted October 5, 2022 Posted October 5, 2022 So after help in the thread on my thread about the server stuttering i've gotten the transcoding working and all is running well now. I eventually abandoned docker and just went with a local install of emby. The advanced diagnostics plugin has been really useful especially working out what is going out transcoding wise in the User Sessions. I now have another question. Under Preferred Hardware Decoders I have the different hardware decoder and encoder options. Where I have the option of QuickSync CometLake-H GT2 UHD Graphics VAAPI CometLake-H GT2 UHD Graphics NVDEC NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti CUVID NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti <-- Not available for all transcoding settings. What I have noticed is that when I get 3 streams running with transcoding they all seem to be using the Quicksync transcoder. So I assume it is either capable of doing multiple ones at once or the software is switching between them as it runs. Maybe 3 simultaneous streams is much lighter work than I realise. So how many streams do I need to have running simultaneously before it will use more than one encoder for transcoding? Whats the point of having all the different options if it only ever uses the first one? Given the four encoding options I have available does it make sense to change the preferred encoder for different codecs? Are some better for some video types than others? Does this information exist anywhere?
Luke 42078 Posted October 8, 2022 Posted October 8, 2022 Hi, there is currently no load balancing with multiple encoders, meaning it will just always try the first one. This is something we plan to add in future updates though. Thanks for the feedback.
