Luke 42077 Posted September 30, 2022 Posted September 30, 2022 Hi. Can you try sideloading our standard android app on the same device and see how that compares? https://emby.media/emby-for-android.html Thanks.

Direct Plays, albeit it with some stuttering for the first minute* edit - Which is odd cause even if I seek back the same stuttering happens, but not showing when playback on PC, weird. Will test with other AV1 files. Edited September 30, 2022 by VirulentPip
VirulentPip 93 Posted October 6, 2022 Author Posted October 6, 2022 Update on the above, and also echoing linked thread. Firestick Native app = Incompatible Codec Sideloaded android app = plays but is juddering (I guess due to Software Decoding and not Hardware) Native App + Nova Video Player = Plays 8bit + 10bit AV1 with hardware decoding - However with the inconveniences of using external player. Hope it's not too long till Emby player is fixed 1
rbjtech 5284 Posted October 7, 2022 Posted October 7, 2022 I hope the AndroidTV/FireTV get updated to support AV1 .. or my plans to use AV1 over hevc will need a rethink ! The standard Android App is simply not in the same league as the AndroidTV/FireTV App - I've tried it on multiple occasions now and simply cannot use it as a 'flagship' interface to Emby. It's usable on a tablet or a phone, but on a large screen TV, the user experience of a quality product is just not there .. @ebr

I tested my Shield Pro, even with Nova Player to enable actually playing AV1 without transcoding it's only Software encoding and isn't powerful enough, judders. I'd be fine with using the Nova player on 4K Max stick, but Emby just doesn't know what's happening with the file, so resuming playback isn't possible and I've run into a few issues with audio. It's not ideal, so yeah something needs to be done
