bill_w 1 Posted September 30, 2022 Posted September 30, 2022 I noticed after adding some 1080p and 4k versions to folders that already contain a 480p version that Emby continues to treat those movies as 480p when sorting, even though it does add the higher resolution version. I thought maybe it was picking the lowest res intentionally, but if I add 1080p and then 480p, it sorts as 1080p. Deleting the movie and adding it back does fix this.
Luke 42078 Posted September 30, 2022 Posted September 30, 2022 Hi there, why exactly do you think it treats them as 480p?
bill_w 1 Posted September 30, 2022 Author Posted September 30, 2022 It just sorts them that way. If I sort movies by resolution, bitrate, or size from high to low, the movies to which I have added a higher resolution version never move up in the sort. Otherwise, everything works as I would expect. I'm guessing that there is internal metadata related to these that is only generated the when the movie is first added?
Luke 42078 Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 Can you please show us a specific example? Thanks.
bill_w 1 Posted October 6, 2022 Author Posted October 6, 2022 It is not easy to show you anything useful because I have so much in my library, but it is easy to reproduce. Add a new movie to the library with a low resolution main feature. Mine are named per the Emby conventions, so it would be 'Some Movie (2022) - 480p.mkv'. Scan it into the library. Now, add a higher resolution version to the same directory 'Some Movie (2022) - 1080p.mkv'. Scan the library again. Now, go to the home page and sort by resolution. The movie will not be sorted among the movies with a 1080p resolution. It will still be sorted among the movies with a 480p resolution. If you go to the details page for the movie, it will correctly show both the 480p and 1080p versions in the dropdown and in the media info section, so everything works as expected except for the sorting. To fix this, remove the movie from Emby, then add it again, scanning it with both the 480p and 1080p files in the directory. It will now sort with the 1080p movies. I don't really care about this - it is easy to work around. I just noticed it and thought I would report it in case nobody else already had.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted October 6, 2022 Posted October 6, 2022 If I understand this correctly it is do grouped items being represented by a single id and by the first item from the group. If the items were not grouped, then you would get the results you are after. Or if you had 1080p in library and added 480p later. As for second test it is about what imported first. Example 2160 imported before 720. 2022-10-05 19:46:41.356 Info App: MovieDbProvider: Finding id for item: Alien, Covenant 2022-10-05 19:46:41.356 Info HttpClient: GET https://api.themoviedb.org/3/search/movie?api_key={apikey}&query=Alien, Covenant&language=en&year=2017 2022-10-05 19:46:41.572 Debug App: Running OmdbItemProvider for C:\Users\Media\Desktop\Videos\Multi Version Library\Alien, Covenant (2017)\Alien, Covenant (2017) - 2160p.mkv 2022-10-05 19:46:41.577 Debug App: Running BaseGenreCleaner for C:\Users\Media\Desktop\Videos\Multi Version Library\Alien, Covenant (2017)\Alien, Covenant (2017) - 2160p.mkv 2022-10-05 19:46:41.577 Debug App: Running BaseStudioCleaner for C:\Users\Media\Desktop\Videos\Multi Version Library\Alien, Covenant (2017)\Alien, Covenant (2017) - 2160p.mkv 2022-10-05 19:46:41.577 Debug App: StudioCleaner : Fetching Movie Generes 2022-10-05 19:46:41.769 Debug App: Saving nfo metadata for C:\Users\Media\Desktop\Videos\Multi Version Library\Alien, Covenant (2017)\Alien, Covenant (2017) - 2160p.mkv to C:\Users\Media\Desktop\Videos\Multi Version Library\Alien, Covenant (2017)\Alien, Covenant (2017) - 2160p.nfo. 2022-10-05 19:46:41.778 Debug App: Running FFProbeProvider for C:\Users\Media\Desktop\Videos\Multi Version Library\Alien, Covenant (2017)\Alien, Covenant (2017) - 720p.mp4 2022-10-05 19:46:41.778 Info MediaProbeManager: ProcessRun 'ffprobe' Execute: C:\Users\Media\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\system\ffprobe.exe -i file:"C:\Users\Media\Desktop\Videos\Multi Version Library\Alien, Covenant (2017)\Alien, Covenant (2017) - 720p.mp4" -threads 0 -v info -print_format json -show_streams -show_chapters -show_format -show_data 2022-10-05 19:46:41.799 Debug MediaProbeManager: ProcessRun 'ffprobe' Started. 2022-10-05 19:46:41.946 Info MediaProbeManager: ProcessRun 'ffprobe' Process exited with code 0 - Succeeded 2022-10-05 19:46:41.955 Debug App: Running MovieNfoProvider for C:\Users\Media\Desktop\Videos\Multi Version Library\Alien, Covenant (2017)\Alien, Covenant (2017) - 720p.mp4 2022-10-05 19:46:41.955 Debug App: MovieNfoProvider returned no metadata for C:\Users\Media\Desktop\Videos\Multi Version Library\Alien, Covenant (2017)\Alien, Covenant (2017) - 720p.mp4 2022-10-05 19:46:41.955 Debug App: Running MovieXmlProvider for C:\Users\Media\Desktop\Videos\Multi Version Library\Alien, Covenant (2017)\Alien, Covenant (2017) - 720p.mp4 2022-10-05 19:46:41.956 Debug App: MovieXmlProvider will fetch xml from C:\Users\Media\Desktop\Videos\Multi Version Library\Alien, Covenant (2017)\Alien, Covenant (2017) - 720p.xml 2022-10-05 19:46:41.956 Debug App: MovieXmlProvider returned no metadata for C:\Users\Media\Desktop\Videos\Multi Version Library\Alien, Covenant (2017)\Alien, Covenant (2017) - 720p.mp4 2022-10-05 19:46:41.956 Debug App: Running MovieDbProvider for C:\Users\Media\Desktop\Videos\Multi Version Library\Alien, Covenant (2017)\Alien, Covenant (2017) - 720p.mp4 2022-10-05 19:46:41.956 Info App: MovieDbProvider: Finding id for item: Alien, Covenant 2022-10-05 19:46:41.957 Info HttpClient: GET https://api.themoviedb.org/3/search/movie?api_key={apikey}&query=Alien, Covenant&language=en&year=2017 2022-10-05 19:46:41.978 Debug App: Running OmdbItemProvider for C:\Users\Media\Desktop\Videos\Multi Version Library\Alien, Covenant (2017)\Alien, Covenant (2017) - 720p.mp4 2022-10-05 19:46:41.979 Debug App: Running BaseGenreCleaner for C:\Users\Media\Desktop\Videos\Multi Version Library\Alien, Covenant (2017)\Alien, Covenant (2017) - 720p.mp4 2022-10-05 19:46:41.979 Debug App: Running BaseStudioCleaner for C:\Users\Media\Desktop\Videos\Multi Version Library\Alien, Covenant (2017)\Alien, Covenant (2017) - 720p.mp4 Just like refreshing metadata only applies to the first item representing the Group. But devs will have to comment more.
Luke 42078 Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 OK @bill_w I see what's happening here. When you merge items you don't get any control over which one is displayed. But once you click on it, all sources for each version are available. It's something we'll look at improving in future updates, probably to show the highest quality source. Thanks.
