Not working on new Chromecast with Google TV (Android 12 OS)

The stuttering was fixed for me until 2.0.87g which is the current beta version in the Play Store. That client won't play h264 live streams in a watchable way on any CCwGTV I've tried it on.

On the other hand, the stable release 2.0.83g is okay on all CCwGTV's I've used it on. Which versions have you all been trying and what's your current symptom?

@bigw00kie I saw a post on Reddit that claimed that the regular CCWGTV HD version doesn't have this error and that the 4 Ref Frames bug is only occuring on the 4K model, but I haven't been able to verify this as the HD version cost nearly as much as the 4K version in my country and I got this 4K version as a gift and therefore I can't really sell it and buy the HD model.

Have you tried the HD-version/have Google told you anything about the regular HD-version of the CCWGTV?

Using this line I went to Reddit and read up. There's a discussion there in several threads that's being continued here without any context. Based on reading there, some people are having the stuttering with media that doesn't even have 4 reference frames. I wouldn't be surprised if that's a red herring. I have been having trouble with media that has DTS audio so I had suspected that, but I wouldn't go down the rabbit hole with that assumption.

In any case, the CCwGTV isn't right. This latest update has stopped it from waking to 4k resolution on my 1080p TV finally, so I'm unplugging it a lot less frequently. Now it seems to change to 1080p 24hz instead of 60hz randomly. This device only had a month or two of being reliable.

My receiver is old and can only handle AC3 without screwing up the audio, so none of my media is DTS, but I've read the same as you, and also about someone having issues with certain 720p files, but they didn't clarify whether that was 4 Ref Frames or not. All my BluRays have gone straight through MakeMKV, and after that I've run it through Xmedia Recode so the Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD tracks are now regular 5.1 AC3 tracks. The stuttering for me only seems to be occuring on BluRays with 4 Ref Frames (as checked through MediaInfo). 3 Ref Frames is stutter-free, and I don't own too many BluRays, so I don't have any 5 Ref Frame, 2 Ref Frame or 1 Ref Frame videos I can test out.

When it comes to the 1080p 24hz instead of 60hz bug, I've luckily not had that occur yet, but I've seen others complain about it too, so I guess it's only a matter of time before it gets to me as well. I just wish Google would release fixes for this device more often, but seeing as we got an update in middle of October, then late November, and then nothing until the end of January, maybe we'll get another one in the middle of March that actually fixes these issues?

Hi Everyone, a new release to the Chromecast today has finally fixed the jerky problems I was experiencing. Worth upgrading to see if it resolves yours.

STTE.221215.004.A1 only lists two items in the changelog:

• Android security patch level has been updated to Jan 2023
• Other bug fixes and performance improvements

I took them some time to release it but at least it's no longer a paper weight.

I have Google tv device with android 12.  Emby returns home as I browse the guide.  I thought it was having the server on a ssd.  That didn't work.  Emby is back to returning home. I tried emby on my Walmart onn android tv device with android 10 and it works fine.  I asked a friend about android 12 and emby and hers returns home too.  So I think it's an android 12 problem and emby for android tv.  I am on the latest beta. No fix. I sideloaded normal android app and it works except the remote. Would like for this to work again as emby returning home is annoying even has a toast at bottom that says emby returning home. Watching videos is fine.  It's just browsing the guide that this happens.

On the standard app the remote does not allow the use of number buttons or pg+ or pg- buttons. All remotes have a pg+ and pg- button for channel up and down which neither emby app uses.

That message would only be produced if the app thought you were holding down the "back" button.

I am pressing down on the round d pad below the ok button.  I notice when this happens its a slight pause and after moving down 3 channels emby returns home. Oddly if I open the guide and wait 30 seconds before browsing the guide all is fine.  Now if I am watching a channel and press up to view the guide. Emby returns home as I browse the guide. Again if I wait 30 seconds then all is fine. Why would emby need to return home when browsing the guide if I'm not pressing the back button.  I have factory reset Googletv 2 times which didn't help. Ive swapped hdmi ports no help. I even changed resolution from 4k to 1080p which didnt help. To me it seems that emby server is not loading something fast enough.  Thing is why only on googletv with android 12.

Is it possible the remote button is sticking? Are you using any button mapper apps?

And just to confirm, are we speaking of the Chromecast with Google TV (4K)? I ask because you mentioned channel up/down buttons and numbers on the remote, while CCwGTV (the subject of this thread) has none. TiVo Flex 4k has those buttons but I don't think it's Android 12. Walmart Onn boxes are Android 12 but the remotes don't have numbers.

Just reporting as a regular user of Emby on Google TV, what you described is not something I've encountered. Whatever the cause, I'm sure it's fixable.
