TheGru 143 Posted September 22, 2022 Posted September 22, 2022 No idea if this has been requested before, but on a multi-user system the Latest TV Shows and Latest Movies get filled up with anything added to my system regardless of if I am going to watch it or not. Example: Chicago Med tv Series. I am acquiring the show for my father, but I do not watch it. It would be cool if I could click a button to hide it from the home screen latest TV shows. This way during any particular season I could have the things I want to watch front and center. Alternatively give me a TV shows Favorites home screen section which would only show the TV I care about and update accordingly as new episodes are acquired. It may also be neat to allow the latest TV shows home screen section to be set to either latest added to library, or show latest AIRED episodes Thanks!
ebr 16169 Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 Hi. You could setup your system so that those items you don't care about don't even appear for you. You could do that with tags or by using our folder-based access and creating a location for shows for just your father. https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001160108-folder-based-access-control
TheGru 143 Posted September 23, 2022 Author Posted September 23, 2022 I know how to do it with folders, but then with more than just him as a user that's not a scalable solution. How do you do it with Tags? This is news to me!!!
TheGru 143 Posted September 23, 2022 Author Posted September 23, 2022 If you're talking about blocking items with tags, that's not what I am going for. I want to be able to access/see everything in a library if i go in to the library. What I am trying to accomplish is almost a home screen Favorite Shows row, where on a per user basis you could set up the shows in your favorites and those would be displayed on the home screen.
Cheesegeezer 3104 Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 OMG gru is here!! you should check out top picks plugin by @chef, still in development and testing but should be released in the very near future. no stealing any moons please lol
TheGru 143 Posted September 23, 2022 Author Posted September 23, 2022 FREEZE RAY! I saw what Chef was working on, it looks cool. Maybe I will teach myself to code and build my own plugin to accomplish what I want.

Yeah, you make it sound easy… it’s not… but myself and chef are self taught because of MB project and have been part of development for well over 10 yrs now.
TheGru 143 Posted September 23, 2022 Author Posted September 23, 2022 I do web development and know many other programming languages, but nothing in the language needed to build out plugins for Emby.
Cheesegeezer 3104 Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 (edited) C#, JavaScript and html is all that is required and understanding the emby eco system Edited September 23, 2022 by Cheesegeezer

Oh well. I've used Emby for years, it's not like I am changing platforms or anything. Just figured I would toss my idea in to the ring and see what happens. 1
chef 3810 Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 Dynamically create channel items based on user account eh? Hmmm... What if I attempt this with the Top Picks plug-in? It might not happen right away because I'd like to get it out there, but the channel interface does provide a method called "IsEnabled(user)".... Unless that is for the over all channel (which it might be...). But, something to look into for certain!

TheGru 143 Posted September 23, 2022 Author Posted September 23, 2022 (edited) @chef Yes dynamically based on some logic like: if is TV series and is Favorite(or some tag) and is Continuing and has unwatched episodes, then show in a Current Series I’m Watching, Home Screen row. I like the favorite idea because it’s easy to click via remote on a TV based device vs Tagging series Edited September 23, 2022 by TheGru
chef 3810 Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 Cool. The top picks currently handles movies. I hadn't written tv shows yet. When user engagement is enabled in top picks, it will use like/favorite data to give weights to the different items in the library, along with watched status amongst the user base, when the item was added to the library, as well as critic, and community views. Perhaps, it might be possible to add something like this as an option.

Perhaps, it might be possible to add something like this as an option. That’s awesome. what I am trying to accomplish is a multi-tenant virtual DVR. I am collecting tons of shows for my user base. my wife has a ton of stuff she watches I couldn’t care less to have clutter up my Home Screen with new episodes. in my system everything TV is stored in Disk Array/TV/Series after it’s grabbed via Sonarr and then processed through Unamic to standardize codecs I have about 14 active users and some will evidently want to track the same shows, for example I don’t want to see any of the “Chicago” shows currently airing because I don’t watch them, but they show up in my Latest TV row because they are indeed latest acquired shows. But since each user has their own favorites for movies and tv, I just keep thinking why not adapt a Home Screen row to be a users favorited tv series that meet certain configurable criteria like is Continuing and has unwatched episodes and would ignore everything else. I’ll leave it at that. thanks for listening everyone! 1
