Hi,

I'm suddenly getting the error:

 

Could not connect to Media Browser 3 Server.

Please be sure it is running on the local network.

 

Would you like to re-try?

 

Unfortunately i can't say what i was doing at the time,server-63548250300.zip as it was working fine last time i used it (about a week ago)

 

I've tried turning off the Firewall but that's made no difference

That sounds like maybe you are using MBC but you didn't say so hard to diagnose.

 

If so, what version?

Yes, I use MBC via WMC on both the PC where the Server is installed and on XBox extenders.

 

I can't get classic to work, it just shows the error described above.

 

If I try to run the MBC configurator ( to try and find the version number) it crashes to the desktop. I'm not at home at the moment so i can't give the exact wording, but it also complains the server isn't found.

 

When i installed the server, i bookmarked the web address, when i go to that web address everything appears to be working as normal. 

 

Does the log file not help in any way?

That is a server log so it doesn't tell me what is going on with MBC.  Without seeing a log, my best guess is that you need to update MBC.  I would try that first.  Otherwise, post the MBC log.

Same exact problem.  I'll add, however, that although the MBS web client interface also looks normal, none of the files will actually play (don't know if the above user tested that).  Can upload MBS, MBC logs if you want.

MBC Version 3.01.196.0 7-19.1 (my configurator also crashes, but the number is still visible in the upper right corner)

You need to update MBC. That version is a couple months old.

I thought my MBC was automatically updating already at the beta level when I would login in WMC and click "update" on startup (when the occasional green dialog box would say there's an update available)?  How do I manually update MBC if the configurator crashes/can't connect to the server?

Just re-install from the web site.

 

You either don't have auto updates enabled or haven't logged into MBC on that machine with an admin account in a long time.

Not trying to be argumentative, just helpful in case others are having the same issue. I am the only user/admin and I login daily (automatically) to MBC.  Obviously I can't open MBC to verify this, but I am assuming that if I get prompts asking me to update MBC on login (when applicable), then I would have autoupdate enabled?

When is the last time you got one of those prompts?  Did you respond "Yes" and let it do the update (MBC would have shut down and then restarted)?  What update level do you have configured?

 

That version you were running was from late July.  There have been a couple of release updates and a number of beta updates since then.

Definitely more recently that that, and I'm pretty sure I had beta level update settings. I'm honestly wondering if the configurator (which I likely haven't accessed since July) may not be showing the MBC version (keeping in mind that it freezes upon opening). Hi,

 

I cant get MBC to run, and the configurator crashes as soon as it opens, i last watched Breaking Bad through it on 21 Sept, and it was working fine.

Will I lose all my settings if I reinstall?

Gochiefs - do you leave MBC running all the time?  That log was not from a fresh start.  It was from a rollover at midnight so I can't see any version info in it.

 

In any case, I'm certain this is a version incompatibility issue.  You have updated your server but not MBC and the server has changed some things that the older versions of MBC will not work with.

 

Both - re-install from the web site.  You will not lose any settings.

Stupid question: should I uninstall MBC or try to install on top of it (which didn't fix my problem lol)? Paranoid about losing settings, as well :)

Just wanted to confirm that I had the same issue in the past few days and re-installing MBC again without uninstalling previous version seemed to fix the problem connecting to the server. Settings all seem in tact. All I have now is one user profile that is displaying incorrect artwork for TV Shows and bit mixed up. Worst thing is, it's the wife's profile. Still looking into it.

 

MBC configurator crashed for me as well so you need to re-install MBC from website. We don't regularly use user profiles with admin rights on MBC so need to address that.

Yes, I too can confirm downloading and re-installing has fixed the problem. I had been on holiday, so obviously the Server had updated whilst I was away, and MBC had got left behind.
