Warez 2 Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 Hi, Setting this up for my mom, the description text for any Movie is too small for her, and to be honest even for me. It's a 50inch TV at about 7 feet back. I've looked through settings and can't find an option. Everything else works great. Hope there's a solution, Brian 1
Luke 42077 Posted September 20, 2022 Posted September 20, 2022 Hi. Can you try sideloading our standard android app on the same device and see how that compares? https://emby.media/emby-for-android.html Thanks.
Warez 2 Posted September 21, 2022 Author Posted September 21, 2022 I sideloaded the app, below are the two versions. First is firetv and second is android. The only difference I see is the logo placement. If the print was a little bigger, say like a news ticker on a cable channel, it would be great. Maybe Normal/Large text could be a feature in a future update. Brian
ebr 16169 Posted September 21, 2022 Posted September 21, 2022 Actually, the TV app text size looks to be slightly larger. Don't you find that text size to be in line with other similar displays on the device home screen and in other apps on the device? 1

I really don't use that many streaming apps. To compare NewsOn app is about the same, but the YouTube app's titles and descriptions are very readable. I appreciate you guys taking the time and trying to help, Brian

FrostByte 5392 Posted September 22, 2022 Posted September 22, 2022 But Warez would like both apps to be bigger, they are both too small for his Mom
seanbuff 1315 Posted September 22, 2022 Posted September 22, 2022 Yup, understand the request - just pointing out an additional difference for future development. 1
arrbee99 1815 Posted September 22, 2022 Posted September 22, 2022 I think some Emby apps have the description in a pop-up window when the description is too long to fit. Maybe that box could be available for all descriptions and also a bit bigger ?

No, I'm saying the description text is to small. Year, Audio, ratings, time aren't important. Title can be seen in larger print on the movie poster or tv title card. So the description text enlargement is all that is needed. I love Emby, works perfectly for me. Maybe this accessibility feature could be added in the future. Thanks, Brian 1

In horizontal view, the labels for "Continue Watching" and "Latest Episodes" are far too small too as is the menu header at top of screen. Feels like when Emby is on a TV interface, the font size needs to go up one size, particularly for descriptions, but other stuff like year, audio, director, network, ratings could probably stay the same. If you compare our text size to the text on the home screen of the device, is it not pretty much the same? I think we have the proper defaults but may need an option to increase.
FrostByte 5392 Posted September 24, 2022 Posted September 24, 2022 Not sure if this is of any help to anyone, but there is an Android style guide which specifies the minimum font sizes for TV apps one should use. Options always help though as we all get older. Style for TV | Android Developers (android-doc.github.io)

In the horizontal view, particularly on smaller tvs like 32"/40", the menu bar at top of the screen should be easily the focus of drawing the viewer to the importance of those top line options. When viewing Audiobook descriptions the text is simply too small and also for movie or TV episode descriptions, regardless of vertical or horizontal view mode. The descriptions for titles of DVD and CDs are fine as there is normally cover art (unless you make that too small and its just right in the Android standard app currently). I keep squinting to read (20/20 for around me but suffer the further away from text to focus but only have very slight readings for my eyes not even enough for laser treatment). Thanks.

They're fine on mobiles and tablets or computer with monitor but TV mode they need to be a bit bigger. A lot of people sit some feet away from a TV and that might be a 32" in the bedroom (no innuendo) or 55" in lounge. It's always been like this not any one change that happened. arrbee99 1815 Posted September 24, 2022 Posted September 24, 2022 So long as its an option, like the poster size option we'll be getting soon...

Luke 42077 Posted September 25, 2022 Posted September 25, 2022 Do you think the font sizes in the standard app are smaller across the board, or just in that one place?
unisoft 352 Posted September 25, 2022 Posted September 25, 2022 (edited) 4 hours ago, Luke said: Do you think the font sizes in the standard app are smaller across the board, or just in that one place? 1. All the Emby apps have too small font for descriptions when on a TV device. 2. In horizontal view; (tile view) the top MENU and "Latest Episodes" and "Continue Watching" sub-headers on home screen need increasing too. Not just the android app, but as I said this is when on TV device as viewing on mobiles or tablets is fine. 3. Microsoft Windows Media Center for example would use a larger font. 4. It probably only needs one size point up, maybe two. Edited September 25, 2022 by unisoft 1

Agree with unisoft, another pt or two in several areas of the TV apps would help a lot. If the Android or another style guide was used as a basis, then I think those were meant as minimums

Exactly what I was thinking. Agree.
