Migrate from docker to Ubuntu 22.20

Recommended Posts

Hello, I'm trying to migrate emby from docker to ubuntu, but even if I have the backup plugin, it doesn't really work. Folders and members are imported, but libraries must be scanned in full. I also tried to transfer the files mentioned in the manual migration procedure, but it crashes emby, so I tried 3 times and I had to format 3 times, because after emby is crashed there is no more nothing to do. I spent the day on it I'm starting to be desperate. Why does it work so well restoring in docker and so badly manually from one system to another? The only thing I transferred was the metadata in the end, I didn't risk it. nothing more. But it does not change anything.

Thanks!

Correct as the plugin only restored Configuration not already imported Data, so without the original databases the /metadata/library images (depending on where you save images to) are really worthless as the folder ids do not match anything anymore.  In theory you copy the entire Emby programdata folder from one system to the other.  But Paths can be a conflict when changing platforms.

@Happy2PlayI just tried I moved the original data folder to the destination of the new server and I can no longer connect to any account now

Not enough information as if you configured say any network setting is could be a problem.  Also what are you calling originaly Data folder?

@Happy2Playinitially I transferred the files as the procedure says and it did not work, so I had to format.  then I read that transferring the entire Emby folder to /var/lib/Emby would work but it would crash Emby.  so I formatted again.  there what I tried was to transfer the Emby data folder to /var/lib/emby then I can no longer connect to my emby account

I only use Windows so really have no idea on other platforms but "Data path: /var/lib/emby" on this platform would be the setup for that install.  I know on Windows I just copy "*\Emby-Server\programdata" folder from system to system without issue.  But I do not change platforms and all paths will remain the same.

@Luke no probably because I don't have access to emby in /var/lib/emby. I had to reinstall and restore the backup, but I had to scan all the libraries. It's not interesting. It's definitely a legal issue. I made plex this afternoon with the help of a little chmod -R 777 /var/lib/plexmediaserver and then I made a full copy of the file, then I reinstalled plex over it and gave back rights and all that! but emby has a big red X on it and the chmod doesn't work. An idea?

EDIT: I try again sudo chmod 777 /var/lib/emby  after do sudo usermod -a -G user emby and reboot and now the folder don't have a X, but emby is install i will try on another computer..With setfacl -m user:emby:rxw /home/your username it's perfect emby see all my home folder!

@Luke

After installing the emby
systemctl stop emby-server

ls -ld /var/lib/emby
the result gave "emby emby"
for user "emby" of user group "emby"
sudo rm -rf /var/lib/emby/*

sudo cp -r /home/jonathan/Desktop/emby/* /var/lib/emby/  (This command will work if you did not make the mistake as I did to delete the complete emby folder which contains the group and the user emby)

copy of the emby folder which contains the following folders:
cache
config
data
metadata
plugins
root

systemctl start emby-server
localhost:8096

In my case I have too much bixoune, because I had deleted the folder /var/lib/emby so it totally fucks the emby group and even by reinstalling emby this folder does not come back as supposed, so the service does not work, I just wanted to see if it worked. To launch it manually I did:

(open terminal on)   /opt/emby-server/bin   (folder)   and type sudo ./emby-server

localhost:8096

Normally we would not have to do this, but I did not look for more solution to fix the problem.

emby-server.service - Emby Server is a personal media server with apps on just about every device
Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/emby-server.service; enabled; vendor preset: enabled)
Active: failed (Result: core-dump) since Fri 2022-09-30 12:46:58 EDT; 7s ago
    Process: 17725 ExecStart=/opt/emby-server/bin/emby-server (code=dumped, signal=ABRT)
   Main PID: 17725 (code=dumped, signal=ABRT)

Everything is functional provided your mount is named the same as the original mount.
If you scan the emby sections it will take time, but go slowly, anyway everything works by default. I added autoscan which automatically adds everything added by radarr and sonarr, so no scan to do unless I put files manually in the mount
