chowbok 132 Posted September 17, 2022 Posted September 17, 2022 (edited) When Emby identifies a movie incorrectly, and you select "identify" and pick the right movie, it will only overwrite the fields that the correct movie has. This leads to weirdness like a movie having a tagline or actor list from a completely different movie. This seems like a bug. Shouldn't a new match erase all the old metadata? I have Norman (2021) and it keeps being labeled AIDS Diva: the Legend of Connie Norman in Emby. I have used identify and I'll get the correct poster in the main library view and the correct poster when I click the movie, but the name in the main view is AIDS Diva: the Legend of Connie Norman and clicking on it and viewing the info it's name AIDS Diva: the Legend of Connie Norman there and has the synopsis for AIDS Diva: the Legend of Connie Norman. I have removed it, refreshed the metadate for the library, moved it back and same thing. I have moved it, renamed it to be Norman (2021) [imdb598011] and still the same when adding it back to the library. I have gone into the metadata editor and remove the two providers that have the wrong info, saved and still the same. I am truly out of ideas to get it to behave. Moved the file to the desktop, went to libraries, changed the order in the Movies library, scanned the library, moved the file back, scanned the the library again, checked and it's listed correctly. It was driving me nuts cause it would get the correct poster and backdrop but the wrong title and information. Thanks for the help, much appreciated. Yes changing TMDB first hides the issue as everything will come from first provider and your TVDB on details page will be wrong. So there is still a mismatch per externalid on item metadata. As the movie does not exist on TVDB. @LukeWhy does the mismatch happen here? TVDB wrong, will assume IMDB came from TVDB query but did not use same TMDBid. But I believe this would be the second topic with issues having TVDB first provider. But not positive if the Collection issue was provider order. Personally would rather remain UNKNOWN/UNIDENTIFIED if proper match can not be made. Or fail on first provider and move to next with the ability to fail on all providers. There is no reason a provider mismatch should happen unless provider itself has the wrong data causing it.

The issue becomes did first provider have all relevant information as Emby gets missing info from each additional provider. So there is a chance of getting info completely irrelevant to the item. It is slim but can happen.

What I care about is the main library name and poster. The poster, synopsis, backdrop, and playing the right file if I play from there. The rest means nothing to me. @Luke you still did not answer my question why when setting up a library for movies why TVDB is the default under metadata instead of the TMDB? scb99 245 Posted September 21, 2022 Posted September 21, 2022 Just my point of view: 1. It seems pretty trivial that TVDB is the default since it's easy to change 2. I agree that it would be good if Emby cleared out old metadata when updating from a new source. I mean, how often are you going to try to "fill out" metadata as opposed to just correct it. Correcting it is by far the dominant requirement I would think. That said, if i was designing Emby Library management from scratch, it wouldn't be the way it works now tbh.

Keep in mind that Emby will have sophisticated, experienced users and unsophisticated or new users. It would be better to have the most appropriate defaults in place so users don't have to go thru this frustration. There is more than one way for Emby to solve this, but it seems Locutus' suggestion could be simple and effective.

Moviedb is unchecked so it won't make a difference. Yes you're right it kind of looks awkward, but it's the same as if tvdb was first given that Moviedb is unchecked.
