n7of9 2 Posted September 11, 2022 Posted September 11, 2022 Hi, thanks for all that you do. I've noticed the devs suggest sideloading Emby for Android when users have various issues (instead of the TV versions of Emby). I've installed it on Firestick 4KMax and it works well. Is it the intention that in the near future Android TV/Fire TV versions will be phased out? I just want to know so i can stick with it and get used to the interface. And how do i find out when new versions are released so i can manually update it?
FrostByte 5392 Posted September 11, 2022 Posted September 11, 2022 (edited) Yes, the devs have indicated that they would like to get down to one Android app at some point. Developing two apps takes more resources. Comparing the apps can also help when tracking down errors if one works and the other doesn't. Eventually, the standard app will be in the store, but until then you can follow the link below or watch GitHub for updates. 80srule 33 Posted September 20, 2022 Posted September 20, 2022 Hopefully we stick with android tv as the mobile doesn't display well on a large screen icons oversized or small ext. limited themes and other things too.

Apparently we will need to get used to the standard Android app as this seems to be the future, so fighting that doesn't help anyone imho. Go over here and provide your feedback regarding the things you pointed out: This would make developers aware of where the differences are still.

Just want to know if the Android version uses eletron framework. The iOS version together with android behave much the same as the emby server's web page. So I assume they're the same framework under the hood. Being a developer myself, I could easily know why they're choosing this implementation. Just to make sure my thoughts were right.

I just moved to it with using google tv The best bits of that app are being argued over in the forum and the devs are putting into the standard Android. You can carry on using your Android TV app for some time yet, but the Android app will play a bit of catch up and then that will lead with new features/changes on your Google TV device. I don't think its half as bad as some make it out to be, and I run both to do comparison. Initially a lot of noise, but each update is coming and some changes already been transferred over where the ATV app had some more nifty things. The goal of having just one android app to maintain frees up the devs and testing resources to concentrate on new stuff more quickly or fixing existing issues and helps prevents multiple apps being at different stages of release with differing features which is hard to juggle. I think Apple iOS and Apple TV Emby apps are likely to be merged too. Edited September 24, 2022 by unisoft
